| 1846: | The U.S. declared war against Mexico.

| 1568: | Mary, Queen of Scots, having escaped from prison, gathered some loyal troops to her side, but was defeated at the Battle of Langside by Scots opponents under the Earl of Moray. Following this action, she fled to England, where she was imprisoned again, this time by Queen Elizabeth I.
