Good afternoon, I’m terribly sorry to bother you as I know you are very busy. My question is just as crazy as everyone else’s. Recently I found out about this new Post 911 GI Bill and I’m very interested in pursuing a degree with this benefit. Is there a way to find out how much the housing allowance portion will be that is paid to the veteran? Once again thank you for your time and consideration. - James L.
Your monthly housing allowance paid to a student under the Post 911 GI Bill is a great question. The answer tp your question is that you receive a Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) equal to that of an E-5 with dependents. The actual amount will be calculated by the zip code for the location of the school you choose to attend to earn your degree. A chart of BAH rates by ZIP code can be found at http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/perdiem/bah.html.
