[Drill for life]

I thought this movie was good as movies go but it was very disturbing, I left the theater offended and felt I was doing something wrong by dating a Black Girl. It is very hard having a Interracial relationship (I am White and my Girlfriend is Jamaican-American) and we do experience racism but like nothing I saw in this movie. What do you guys think, was the movie too "fake" or do you honestly think things like that still go on today?

I haven't seen the movie but I will say that interracial relationships, like anything seen as "weird" or "different", is mocked instead of understood simply because people laugh at what they don't understand. It's the same reason people stare at someone with a prosthetic leg or a really large person. If you let people's judgments dictate how you act, you're living a life not your own. Anyway, just my two cents on the issue.

That is very insightful, I have never thought of it that way. If something is weird and different to you that doesn't mean its weird and different to that person. Walk a mile in somebody's shoes.

I voted no because I am currently in a relationship with someone who is mixed and I can tell you that it has absolutely nothing wrong with it. I agree with Tim, it's simply that people don't like what they don't understand.

I would say it really does matter in some circumstances while generally it shouldn't. In some cultures or religions it is really frowned upon because of tradition, in other circumstances it is frowned upon because of prejudice.

Here is an example from my life. Most of my friends are Jewish or part Jewish. I grew up in a relatively large Jewish area and currently go to a law school where a very large part of the students are Jewish. Jewish girls are generally expected to marry Jewish guys and vice versa. Several of my friends have a parent that was disowned or cut out of a will by their parents and family for going against that tradition. I have a friend who was told that his girlfriend is not welcome in his parent's home because she is Asian. I think it is dumb but it is a cultural thing. I'm a Catholic by the way.

I have also seen this with friends that are Hindu and Muslim. Again it isn't about having a problem with race, just a cultural tradition.

As far as interracial couples go, I really could care less. The important thing is that you are with someone who makes you happy. If people have a problem, then it is their problem.

You are right Legalshark as long as you love the person and as long as you are happy it doesn't matter.

The color of your skin or the origin of your people does not, rather should not, matter under any circumstances. As said before, the reason why it is frowned upon is because of ignorance, to include prejudice and a misunderstanding.
