Default Obama assassination pool.

I've made it no secret that I am far from a supporter of the "Messiah", and in fact consider him to be, at best, one of the "useful idiots" that Lenin spoke of, and at worst, a blatant Communist, and therefore one of the "domestic enemies" I swore to defend the Constitution against, but this, if true, is beyond the pale.

Maine Store's Alleged Obama Assassination Pool Sparks National Outcry

The owner of a Maine store has sparked intense local and national outcry over a sign that invited customers to bet on a date when President-elect Barack Obama would be assassinated, but authorities say no charges are planned.

After the post-election incident in Standish, Maine, town officials were bombarded with angry e-mails from around the country. And on Friday, hundreds gathered at a "Rally Against Hate" in Portland to denounce the racially charged sign and to appeal for unity, the Portland Press Herald reported.

Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion said Friday that Steve Collins, owner of Oak Hill General Store, denied any knowledge of the "Osama Obama Shotgun Pool" sign. The sheriff added that the sign was nowhere to be found when a deputy visited the store to investigate a report of it on Nov. 7.

Dion also said posting the sign would not necessarily constitute a threat or a terrorizing incident.

The handwritten sign on an eraser board inviting the $1 bets ended with, "Let's hope someone wins," according to two journalists for The Associated Press who saw it while checking out a tip of its existence.

A description of the sign was included in an Associated Press national roundup of post-election incidents, many of them racially charged, decrying the election of the nation's first black president. That story appeared Nov. 16, bringing national attention to the controversy, the Press Herald reported.

''Whatever the intent of his expression was, we never located the evidence of it,'' Dion said in the Nov. 16 Associated Press story.

Collins told his landlord last weekend that he was going hunting and has been unreachable since. His store was closed this week, which isn't unusual this time of year, customers told the Press Herald. He has not spoken publicly about the incident and may not be aware of the publicity.

After fielding the angry e-mails, the Standish Town Council passed a resolution Thursday criticizing the sign, the Press Herald reports, and on Friday evening, Gov. John Baldacci and other state and local leaders spoke of the incident at the anti-hate rally in Portland.

I'm no fan of Obama but on a strictly human level, I hope him and his family make it through four years without anybody getting seriously hurt. A lot of people want bad things to happen to that man...

As much as I despise Chairman O., I don't wish for any of our leaders (even the sorriest ones) to be assassinated or physically harmed. That is not, in my opinion, the proper way for a civilized nation to deal with its problems.

I wouldn't, however, refrain from dancing in the nearest street should the idiot foul up spectacularly and, as a result, find himself thrown right out of office before his term ends. Likely? No, not really. But Obama can have his "hope" and I can have mine, right?

Does that mean that "tarring, feathering, and running out of the country on a rail" is out of the question?

Well, if you know how to do a good old fashioned Texas two-step, I'd probably join you!

I'd rather Waltz Across Texas.

Tarring and feathering? No, I'm sorry, but I'm against that unless the fowl who donate their feathers are truly-willing givers. I'd hate for their feathery wealth to be redistributed, even for a worthy cause like that one.

I don't do any two steps (actually, I don't dance, period), but I certainly wouldn't mind learning something new if my wistful little daydream ever comes true. Might even invest in a good pair of cowboy boots for the new dance.

I was thinking something along the lines of utilizing some old pillows.

A Texican who doesn't two-step? I'm SHOCKED! Perhaps between HairyEyeball, txb&b, and myself we can expand your knowledge base. Also, if we ARE going to be dancing in the street, I really would recommend a good pair of boots so that you don't get the horse droppings on your socks!

This occurred five miles from my house! I know where this store it. I might not be happy with the election outcome, I feel that the owner was out of line with that poster.

It was in bad taste, but I am glad that charges are not being pressed against him.

It is funny the double standards the press uses. I still remember that hanging Palin mannequin in California. Nothing was said about that...

I think a lot of people expect Obama to be more prone to be assasinated as his enemies are seen to be more keen on shooting people than Mcains enemies .Bad taste to advertise a betting pool.

I think that the reason it was a big deal was the last line....
