Default Order of precedence

In my unit there is a bit of confusion regarding the order of precedence of national awards. What exactly is the order of precedence for these medals?

I know for AJROTC, CCR 145-2 defines the order as being alphabetical by award name, but I'm not sure what the other programs do.

Look what I found:

https://www.usarmyjrotc.com/jrotcRes...s/CCR145-2.pdf - Page 126

Not sure if that's exactly what you are looking for, but its AJROTC, its awards, and they are in order of precedence so I figured it was at least close lol. Sorry if its not it, I'm not AJROTC so I'm not familiar with its national awards, much less precedence.

Wow, that sure changed since I was in AFJROTC. What exactly are the top performer and extreme challenge ribbons? The same ribbons used to be Excellent Unit and Physical Fitness respectively?

Top Performer is awarded on an inspector's visit to the unit from HQ. He/she awards it to the top 2% based on what he/she saw.

The E2C ribbon is an exact replacement of the Physical Fitness ribbon. The only reason it is called the E2C ribbon is because AFJROTCHQ started the "Extreme Excellence Challenge" a year or two ago and they decided that a ribbon matching the program would be more appropriate. The only difference between the two is that their are different levels of them based on cadet performance (bronze star, silver star, and gold star devices).

The Extreme Challenge did replace the Physical Fitness, but the Excellent Unit was replaced by Distinguished Unit. (I think)

That's weird, because I got that in my Freshman year and we didn't have our inspection until Sophomore year.

3.2.29. Top Performer Award. The Cadet Top Performer Award is a Headquarters, AFJROTC award presented to a maximum of 2% of the current unit cadet corps population (unduplicated headcount). All currently enrolled cadets may be considered. Specific consideration should be given to cadets not previously recognized for superior performance

*3.2.29.1. The award will recognize a cadet’s performance in the following key areas: Leadership and job performance: in primary duty and specifically in preparation for the unit’s annual assessment. Leadership qualities: involvement and positions held in extracurricular activities. Academic performance: nominee must be in good academic standing in all high school course work. Significant self-improvement. Community involvement. Other accomplishments.

*3.2.29.2. A SASI may nominate candidates to their respective Area Administrator. Area Administrators will present awards to nominees during their visit unless personal observation of the cadet warrants otherwise.

*3.2.29.3. Ribbons will be available from HQ AFJROTC and distributed to the Area Administrators for presentation. The award consists of a certificate and a ribbon, which may be presented by the Area Administrator during the visit or the SASI if the cadet(s) is unavailable due to class scheduling conflict, etc. The ribbon may be worn for the duration of a cadet’s tenure in AFJROTC.

That's from the AFJROTC Uniform and Awards guide. Maybe you were a special case.

The Distinguished Unit Award used to be the Outstanding Unit Award. The name was changed during my AS-III or AS-IV year.
