Might not mean a lot to most around here, but I feel a little melancholy over this Wing's conversion from Manned Fighter Jets to the MQ-9 Reaper Drone's. I know there will be lots of activity, training on new airframes, the change from Jets to Turbo-Props, NCO's becoming part of a virtual Aircrew Member. A really different Unit and tasking to be sure. There are times I would love to be part of this change over because they are always exciting times. I feel like I am being left behind and that this is a new Generation, and New USAF and I am not part of it other than being a memory and an alumni.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I got out in 1970 and since then, two of the three bases I was stationed at have been closed, the class A uniform has changed twice, my old AFSC is gone, my seperation rank title no longer exist and the Major Air Command I spent most of my time in (SAC) is long gone. But... over 20 years as a member of the Air Force Association and 18 years in Civil Air Patrol, combined with over 30 years of collecting USAF insignia has kept me a bit in touch with the old service. Time and progress marches on. |
