What are some good ways to help cadets keep bearing while marching, and while at attention. Alot of people have a bad tendency to look down while marching, or look around while at attention, or follow me with their eyes.

It's called "Incentive Training" nowadays.

Here is what I do. My class has the worst problem, they can't at attention long enough for me to take roll. I have them stand at attention the whole class period. If they move or look around I make them do 15 push-ups. It works except for this one cadet. He's a pain in my butt.

The other thing you can do is inspire them to believe that bearing is important. Find some stories like "Message to Garcia" or a MOH Citation to inspire them with. Also you can use the ditty "Excessive Movement!" with response, "Kills!" To emphasize that they are in an organization that is derived from a profession of arms. Point out that men have died for sneezing. We do this in my NROTC Battalion through an orientation program called Charlie Company Orientation. We actually had a guy get stung three times by a wasp and he held bearing. Another good story is the story of the young spartan and the fox. Good Luck!
