Magazines/Professional Journals: What do you read?
I was wondering what military magazines or military professional journals y'all read?
As far as Journals, I read the Armor Magazine, and I try to get my hands on the Infantry Magazine whenever I can. For magazines go (the kind you find at your local book stores), I usually get Armchair General (funny name, serious magazine...kind of like Schlotzsky's Sandwiches), Civil War Times and American Civil War. I will also flip through World War II and Military History Quarterly from time to time. On a similar note, does anyone know of a good US-Mexico War magazine? I have plenty of books on the subject, but was wondering if there was a good magazine that produced modern articles on the conflict.

I read Navy Times....it's the Navy's "National Enquirer." Whenever you want to read about what "might" happen in the Navy or get up to date on the rumor mill, read the "Times." All Hands is a good magazine to flip through...good pics. I also have a scrip to Guns N Ammo and American Rifleman. I like the first because it's "gun porn"....it tells me what's new and "sexy" in the tactical world. The latter is great for news on the Second Amendment and the lib's attempts to trash it.

Thanks for reminding me. I forgot to mention the Army Times, Soldier Magazine and GX (Guard Experience). All good publication, I just don't consider them "serious" publications.

I used to get a variety of foreign policy journals, but now I read the International Journal of Emergency Management online (I'm not paying 400 bucks for a 4 issue subscription, jeez!)
Non-military I read Lacrosse Magazine and Firehouse. All the rest are books.

A book I've gotta get myself motivated to finish is "Long Hard Road - NCO Experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq". I've found it to be a good read from the contributing NCO's, having not yet deployed. I too find myself reading the Times often. Aside from that, really don't read too much. I'll browse some news sites every now and then but that's about it.

"Air Force", magazine from membership in the Air Force Association, "American Rifleman", from the NRA, and "Confederate Veteran", from the Sons of Confederate Veterans. I also read "The Trading Post", from the American Society of Military Insignia Collectors, "The Footlocker", from the Association of American Military Uniform Collectors, "The Banner", from the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Civil War News. Hobby related also includes "The Insignia Detective", and several newsletters related to living history of the Civil War & Indian Wars periods.
I've cut down in recent years when I read more aviation history and Civil War history and reenacting magazines. Believe it or not, you can get too much stuff to read (and pay for).
