First thread in the new cadet lounge! I like the integrated forum idea, by the way. Hope we get as many cadets from the old forum to move here. Anyway, straight to the point. Just wanted to say hi, and also to say that AFJROTC is back in full swing for me, and summer is officially over.
Just a little update on me...I suffered a nice ribcage injury that has effectively ruined my ability to perform armed drill team, color guard and honor guard, so I'm quite bummed about that . Still have not gone any further in my Private Pilot's certificate, still working for money for that, and to finish it all up, my dad has retired from our local police dept. after 31 years of service, so congrats to him. How was all your summers out there?

Welcome Cadet to the New Forum Area.
I post this because I want the Cadets to understand that this area is going to be watched and viewed a little closer. Please remember that the Cadet Protection Policies are still in effect. If you have a problem with anyone or anything, PLEASE bring it to the attention of a Moderator or Adult Instructor ASAP. If you ask questions of the Vets or Active Duty folks, be respectful and polite. Some things may go un-answered and that is the prerogative of the person you ask. Sorry about your injuries. These things happen. You could still be a part of it from an admin or Instructional point of view. Keep in touch some way with these teams, Things come up and YOU might be the one with the answer. Good News for your Dad. Retirement from any position is a big step, bigger than most are aware. I know after 8 years, I still miss my Unit and my work in the Service. I hope you enjoy the Forum.

That has to suck!
As for my summer: It was pretty good, as I mainly played XBox Live with my friends. I did go to North Carolina to hang out with my cousins, and on the plane, I saw a few F-15C's (I think, I didn't see a second pilot) flying about... ten thousand feet below us and off our wing. ![]() Well, JROTC started up, and, I've been pretty mad at my Platoon for the moment... they're all LET-3s and above, and they don't know Column Rights, Lefts, Change Step, and other very, very, VERY basic marching movements. On top of that, I haven't recieved the chance to seriously drill them yet... it's mainly been Inspection... :S On September 11th (go figure), I came to a startling realization that my JROTC program was just... boring. After two years (Four semesters due to our block program, making me a LET-5), I have realized that we've been doing the same thing every single year. It's all been about Uniform (I still find it startling how hard it is for cadets to even get a good haircut, much less place their brass on their uniforms), Inspection (I find it really funny how they still can't remember how to do open ranks), and these little... LEAD books. (If you know about the flash cards that other Programs get, it's the same thing. They just took the flash cards and put them into a book) I've seriously wanted a Raider team (as my SAI), just because Drill Team is getting... old. I've mastered it for the most part, and, I want a new challenge. Sad thing is, my school district won't let us out of state... and the nearest unit to us (with a Raider team) is in Kansas. On the same day, (9/11), I found out about the USACC. I would join it... if I had the money and I lived on the East Coast for that matter...

Summer...what on earth is that!? LOL
My summer months (June thru August) consisted of an Army sponsored vacation to Ft. Benning, GA, for 32 days of great Army training. Aside from that adventure, nothing special to share. Took a couple weeks of leave in August, though stayed in the local area; mainly used the time off to relax versus travel anywhere. Continuing to (slowly) work towards my promotion to Sergeant. Was boarded back in February, and have been on the promotion standing list ever since. Just hard to get picked up when cutoff scores haven't dropped below 600 in forever, and I'm barely sitting at 500 points! I must say, it's nice to see the new forum fully coming together. When I first visited, it was nowhere near as "complete" looking as it is now (in terms of mods having their titles, our smileys, etc.)

My summer has been... Busy.
No break from school, I have been nose to grindstone, but if I survive the next year I'll graduate two years early. I am preparing to begin teaching a new class for Basic Cadet Training, the first one since I revamped the program, so it will be interesting to see how it works out.

I was in summer school for a certain subject over the summer, defiantly something that I'm not proud or happy of. However, I learned a lot during it (thanks to the great teacher that taught my summer school class), so you can be sure that I'm doing 100% better this year in that subject.
Summer School only occupied my mornings, so I had the rest of the day to do whatever I wanted. Also, it ended a few days into August, so I had most of August to do whatever I wished, aswell. I've been in school for almost two weeks now, and I'm doing good in all of my subjects. I slipped a little in Math, but now that I'm finally back in the groove, I'm doing better there. Here's to a good school year.

That topic is being discussed amongst the Adult Instructors. The short answer is yes. As to who and when, look fo rthe announcement in the Cadet Announcement Forum.
