Aye... my Platoon, frankly, sucks. They can't stop talking, their brass is constantly unshined (not like, one streak of tarnish, I mean, to the point where their discs are turning blue), half don't even know column rights and lefts, and, they can't keep their mouths shut in formation. Whenever I crack the whip, whatever I do gets overriden by my SAI.
One example: Today. They come into class, I tell them to study. They keep talking. About fifteen minutes later, after report and the like, I tell them to study. They keep talking. So, the C/CSM and myself put them at attention. Everytime, my SAI walks in and tells them to sit down. Then, inspection comes. Super easy, right? All my Company Commander asks are simple questions, such as the three leadership styles and first aid. I counted somewhere between eight and ten wrong answers. Also, their brass... I walk up in front of one cadet, a C/SFC, and, the supposed Assistant Commander of my school's drill team. His hair is over my school's regs, and, his torches/discs are tarnished to the point that they start turning blue. The inspection continues, and, I step in front of another C/SFC. His dics are so badly tarnished, it looks like they're rusted. So, at the end, before class ended, I put out the very simple rules. When they come into class, they study. When there's nothing going on, they study. When inspection comes, they're either studying or inspecting each other, not talking about who's dating who. When I saw that inspection sheet, it made me feel like crap because that means that I'm not doing my job. So, after school, I came up with a few more rules that I hope to introduce tomorrow. If you guys have any other suggestions, please say so.

That is rough. The only thing I can suggest is talking to your AI/SAI. Ask them why they keep contradicting what you tell your platoon to do. I would probably tell them that by doing that they are undermining your authority and making you look like a fool. Beyond that I would drop them every time they talk, that's what our class leaders do. We drop almost every day (we have a bad class.) That keeps us quiet for at least a few minutes.

Can't you grill them? That is the only motivational way to get some people in the unit to listen. Personally, these members disrespect the uniform they are wearing, and that would be enough for me to motivationally pt them to not only keep their butts in shape, but to get them to realize. PM me on here, or on msn to talk more.

Quote:
As for your platoon, you need to sit them down and have a serious discussion with them. Also, try making some sort of consequence for poor behavior, be iit push ups, essays, whatever, and a positive reward if they can get their collective acts together. You also need to talk to your SAI and AI about what's going on. Don't accuse them of anything, just point out your concerns, and ask for their help with the consequence reward stuff. You also need to take a look in the mirror, if you were in their position and had yourself as a leader, how would you react. It is essential that you be completely honest with yourself here...
