Default Hobbies

Just as the title suggests, what are your favorite hobbies? You can be as descriptive or vague as you want. I'll go first:

My favorite hobby is flying. As a couple of you saw in the previous cadet forum, I received awards for promoting Aviation related activities in my community, I even won some money for it! I guess I got hooked when I picked up a copy of Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2004. I messed about in the Cessnas, learning how to fly, then moved up to the bigger jumbo jets and began attempting to fly according to regulations (or as close as I could get in a home simulator game) From then on, it was love at first sight. In November of 2007 I took my first "introduction flight" at a local flight school. The CFI allowed me to take-off, maneuver, and land a Cessna 172SP with a Garmin G1000 system onboard (some of you may have seen this in Flight Simulator X, and I have pictures as well if anyone cares to see.) If all works out well, I might be able to start lessons for my Private Pilot's Certificate this upcoming summer. So, there you have it.

Now, how about all you?

I also love to fly. I have accumulated about 10 hours and hope to solo before New Year's.
But my favorite hobby by far is hiking/climbing. In the mountains you get this special feeling that comes from nowhere else. I have over 200 miles backpacking with 8 major summits. This last summer my boy scout troop went to Mt Baker in Washington and spent 6 days on the glacier learning crevasse rescue, glacier travel, etc. We had perfect weather the entire time. On the last day we summitted Mt Baker right after sunrise and the view was amazing.
Anyone interested in pics PM me.

AirForceAlways; I wouldn't mind seeing some of your pictures from flying.

Hobbies, Hobbies, Hobbies..

Well let's see what I have up my sleeve. First and foremost, my most favorite hobby would be the internet *laughs* To be more detailed, I love instant messengers, CSS, Java, AHTML, XHTML, Java, and BHTML. I love photography, and my most favorite genre for photography would have to be nature. I also love scrapbooking with a passion. I am just starting to get into Videography. Perhaps the most favorite hobby of mine would have to be Genealogy. I managed to trace mine on my Paternal Grandmother's side back to 1646 in Acadieville, NB. I love Research also. Military history, well, not so much a hobby, but I enjoy learning it. I am just starting to become interested in wanting to fly. I'm looking at joining a local Civil Air Patrol Squadron.

Computer Networking is what I do. I'm studying for my Net+ and my A+ certifications, and hope to have them by the end of this year.

If you really want to get the most out of Flight Simming, check out a virtual airline. While it isn't required, most of the virtual airlines fly online with ATC. Go to VATSIM.org and check it out.

See you in the wild blue!

I love to read, mainly military fiction, as well as paintballing and airsofting. I also like to research the militaries of other countries... for some odd reason, it's fun.

Paintball is fun. That's a hobby of mine that I didn't put (oh no!). What kind of marker do you have? I've got a VSC Phantom, that's right baby, stock class pump! Its what the real ballers do!

I also like to study on ancient Military leaders, armies, tactics, and things like that. I'm big on history.

AFA,

Have you ever considered joining CAP as well as JROTC? CAP offers many special activities that are available to cadets specifically for that goal. For example, the National Powered Flight Academy (or glider) is held multiple time in many locations throughout the country. For under $1,000 most students leave with their solo rating.

The average cost of a solo nowadays is around $3,500-$4,000. From there, CAP also has scholarships available to bring you from your solo to private pilot certificate.

If you want some more information:
