I am trying to find the names of any ships that were attacked off the coast of Venezuela during WWII in 1944. My grandfather was on one and needed a blood transfusion as a resilt of being in the oily ocean for too long. I believe that this series of events would have him earing at least the Mariner's Medal.
Unfortunately, this info with so much more, is missing from his service records along with the fact that he never received a WWII Merchant Marine Victory Medal or any others for that matter. Were Merchant Mariner records poorly kept and how do I fix them if so? Thanks for your help. |
