The attacks on Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin of Alaska are an obvious indication that her nomination has gotten the Liberals knickers in a knot. It's one thing to engage in normal political "mud slinging", and it's even "normal" for politicians to occasionally stretch the truth about their opponents, but the desperate attacks by the left on the Governors record, and her family, have gone so far over the edge that, IMNSHO, they've managed to completely discredit themselves, and have more than likely damaged their credibility for years, if not decades to come.
Now, I readily acknowledge that Presidential candidate Obama and VP candidate Biden have not only distanced themselves from these attacks against Governor and VP candidate Palin, and have in fact asked for these attacks to cease, but the fact remains that the people who are behind these attacks are also behind Obama and Biden. "Birds of a feather" anyone? From FactCheck.org; Quote:

And liberals have been known for their veracity and love of truth for how long?
The technique of the 'big lie' repeated often enough is not new - Hitler was a master of it, but it goes back at least to the damp Pharaoh who came back from the Red Sea boasting of how his legions had, despite grevious losses, slaughtered the escaping Israelites. The fact of the matter is that Palin has them scared shiftless: She's rallied conservatives who might otherwise have stayed home on Election Day; she's rallied women who backed the Hildebeast for no reason other than she was (apparently, at least) female; she's rallied hunters and shooters who have little love for McCain. Each and every one of them is a vote that is not either goinging to Barry Hussein and company, or would otherwise not be cast against them. The libs have a long and storied history of 'the rules only apply to the other guy', whether it be a 'rule of law' or one of common decency, and when you have nothing valid to say, why not lie? Most telling of all, how can they legitimately beat a ticket of the Geezer and the Gidget? |

I have always found it humorous that the group of people known as "Liberals" are the ones who want to strip Liberties from our citizens. What an oxymoron...
Speaking of unintentional ironies... I also get a chuckle of their selection of the "trotting jacka$$" as their mascot. ![]() Seriously though. God Bless Governor Palin. I believe that she and Obama's selection of Senator Biden were the final nails in the Democratic Party's coffin for the lead on this election. It is about time we got a true conservative on the ticket. Last edited by PaulR; 09-17-2008 at 09:01 PM. |

In my opinion Sen. McCain made the best possible choice for VP. She is a breath of fresh air in the Republican party and as "HairyEyeball" stated "has them scared shiftless" and obama bin laden knows he's got a real fight on his hands with Gov. Palin.

What am I missing about Gov. Palin. From a campaign point of view, it was a brilliant choice. The possibility that she could be CinC is not. Someday, a candidate will become the leader, the founder of a new movement in American politics where presidential candidates choose a running mate based on qualifications to become the President. No matter how much you adore the newest republican darling, she is not now prepared to hold the highest office and single most important elected position in the world. Good Lord, if I hear one more time about her state's proximity to Russia makes her a foriegn policy expert, I'm gonna hurl. I guess if you use the previous governor of Texas as an example, she'd be right there with him. Afterall, he was the closest to Mexico with the longest common border. How is that "Illegal" thing coming along anyway.
I have nothing, absolutely nothing against Ms. Palin except her qualifications. So, on a score of 1 to 10 for campaign strategy, I'd give this one a 9. On the question of her abilities to lead the free world, a 2 would be in order. The 1 is reserved for Obama. |

Valid observations, Paul - and it's long past time we returned to the principle of choosing our leaders on their qualifications (and principles). Unfortunately, nobody has ever been 'fully prepared' to assume the mantle of leadership of the free world - the position is so unique that nobody could be. The best we can hope for is someone with an understanding of what makes this nation 'what it is', and so different from the rest of the world; who knows that there are few 'absolutes' in the world as it is; comprehends that any successful 'negotiation' must be conducted from a position of strength; who realizes that there are 'experts' in all fields that a President can call on - but the final decision rests behind the desk in the Oval Office.
Your arguments can be applied to any recent - in fact, almost every - occupant of the Big White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue: What 'qualifications' did any President of the last Century bring to the office? And how many - or few - actually 'grew into' the job? I'm not saying that Gov. Palin is the 'ideal' choice for the second slot on the ticket, and eventually to lead it, but for all practical intents and purposes - including, unfortunately, 'electability' - what other viable choices were there? |

True we've had several State Governors in the past three decades all of whom have had "limited" experience on the world stage and they were Presidents not Vice Presidents. I guess time will tell.

Well, based upon the choices on the table, there are no other rational choices. All being said, Gov Palin still has more executive experience than Senator Obama.
While we are on the topic of "shameless Liberals", what do you all think about that @!*&% Senator Biden's statement today? "It is the Patriotic duty of wealthy Americans is to pay higher taxes"! First of all, what is his definition of a "wealthy American"? Hmmm... as a Senator, we all know that he is making at least $169300 per year(2008 pay). God only knows what other things he has going on for added income. I am sure that his Senatorial salary is chump change. I wonder if he is as willing to do his "patriotic duty" or will he find some loophole to avoid doing his part? |

'Patriotism' my @$$ - that is pure, unadulterated socialism. If there is a 'patriotic duty' of any American, it's to see that demogogues like this never reach the corriders of power.
