Hello,

Does anyone know if cadets in the AFROTC program are able to study at the Air Force Academy for a semester or something. I tried to email my brother who is currently at the Air Force Academy about the same question, but he's extremely busy with school and stuff so he's unavailable. Thanks!

If I were you, I would contact the AFA directly. Email their admissions about it, as they are also the ones who handle their week long visit for people to get a taste of what its like there. That would be the most effective way, and possibly the fastest definite answer.

If your asking can you go to the academy and the drop out when you finish your first semester...why would you want to. Instructor correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that if you are accepted to a service academy the government pays for you education. That is open to correction. But, I don't see why not but do contact the admissions office first before you take that to account.

I'm not saying that I would want to drop out, I would never want to do that. What I'm asking is if I went to school at a regular, non-military college, on an afrotc scholarship, can I spend a semester at the Air Force Academy and study there? I've visited the Air Force Academy a lot and have seen them march quite often. In some of the cadet squadrons there are other cadets from the naval academy, west point, from all over the globe actually. What I want to know is if an AFROTC guy can do that too.

Umm well there is something behind that... I am actually trying to do it, but there is a program where they accept 4 cadets a year out of college to go to the AFA. Thogh there is a downside, everything youve done means nothing and you have to start back over.

I dont know about going for a temporary stay of duty, I would have to find out about that but I do know that you can apply and get in through college, even though it is very selective.

I spoke to a friend at WestPoint about this. He doesn't think that that is plausible. At least it doesn't happen at WestPoint, but continue to look into it...I don't know maybe you'll learn something that you can share with the rest of us.

I finally spoke to my brother about it just briefly. He says that rotc can't or at least he's never seen it but for anyone else looking into it maybe there's another way like Startingover was talking about. Thanks for the help StormCrow and Startingover!

Your very welcome...just remember...just because you did the ROTC route and not the academy route...it doesn't make you any less of an officer.

And actually I have new information, I talked to my commanders at Det. 600, and there is a program that you can go through and you can go for the summer to the academy or some other place and study over the summer. Its called PDT, Professional Development Training, and it typically happens in the summer of your third and fourth AS years. So just after you get out as your first year of being a POC, you attend a specific PDT if you want.
