Default Army Regulation Beret

I was just wondering what the Army regulation for the wear of berets with both the Class A and ACU uniforms are. I was at Nationals and saw the multitude of teams wearing berets for regulation events like color guard and I thought it looked better than the garrison cap. I asked my AI if I could use them for regularly scheduled uniform days and he said maybe (mind you he wears one.) In any case I was just wondering what Army Regulation says about the wear of berets because I have paradestore.com in front of me and have no clue which beret (and color) to buy.

Okay first of all your school doesn't have beret's in stock(I have never heard of a school not having beret's) although I only deal with and know about Georgia units(Chicago also but I wouldn't do anything they do in there unit's). In my unit we wear them with Class A's and Class B's( but I can't speak for your unit or other cadet's units). In my unit we stopped wearing beret's with ACU's( don't ask me why they nver told me, our BNCO doesn't even know why either). My suggestion to you is to ask your SAI and AI about this topic and if it is appropriate to buy your own beret and what they want you to get(probably one of your school's colors). They probably wouldn't want you to buy one because from what you are telling us is that your unit doesn't have/issue beret's and no one wears them

Every unit is different so I would just talk to you SAI and AI about this matter. Please keep us informed because you have sparked my interest now.

I recommend avoiding the berets that regular army uses (black, tan, green and maroon). They are reserved for all of the Army, Rangers, SF and Paratroopers respectively. A quick Google search warranted the entire AR 670-1 which holds within its many pages the regulations for the wear of the Army beret. Start reading.

As a Cadet NCO, you should know where to look for these kinds of things. I'm not even in AJROTC, yet I found your answer with a few clicks.

Because the date on the reg I found was 9/1/02, I would assume that also (currently) includes tan berets.

Oh yes I forgot to mention (you probably noticed) that Glendale Paradestore has a tremendous amount of options and color's to choose from if you are allowed to buy a beret from there site.

This should answer your question if you can wear a beret with ACU's. It's no, I find it weird how we wore our name tape's on the back of our PC at JCLC (every cadet who had name tapes wore them on the PC and Jacket), it might have been because it was the first year the ACU's where authorized for wear by cadet's.

You probably wore the tapes on the PC b/c that's what regular Army does. Same on our Gortex M65's.

The regular Army only wears the berets b/c PC's are used "for training purposes only"...meaning BCT/AIT/FX's (occasionally).

You are right, CCR 145-2 says what colors are not allowed, however there is nothing saying what colors are standard in either AR 67-1 or CCR 145-2, and thats what I am asking. Since there is no actual standard now that I have looked through everything that can possibly tell me than can this thread please be closed?

DFL,

That diagram comes from a non-authority site (it's not the AJROTC Official site FYI). Second, in AJROTC the standard headgear is the garrison & patrol cap. The beret is an optional item in your programs, hence the reason it's not used in the regulation's diagrams.

Thread closed per request.
