Default Another Modest Proposal

With the Screecher of the House so insistant on taxing everything from your placenta to your retirement, how 'bout we just put a 'windfall profits tax' on government 'service' - or better yet, cap the salary of any and all elected 'officials' and 'representatives' at, say, fifty thousand dollars? As it currently stands, the overwhelming majority of those in office are (theoretically) taking a 'pay cut' (yeah, right!) to 'serve'; most of them wouldn't have the positions they do if they hadn't in some way 'bought' them: Anyone really believe Barack Hussein somehow 'earned' the big chair in the Oval Office, or BloominIdjit 'earned' the right to party at Gracie Mansion?

Better yet, shall we cap both the salaries and the amount that can be spent - by all concerned parties - for any given elected office? Say we pay Senators and Representatives (essentially the same since Amendment XVII) fifty thousand a year, and dock them (possibly fine them, too) for every day they miss, and allow them to spend up to seventy-five thou per campaign - from themselves, their parties, their PACs and any other 'support groups'? And fine them personally - treble whatever overspending is discovered?

I seem to recall a while back my rather modest proposal, which was poo-poo'd, that ALL elected mis-representatives receive only the equivalent emolument as the average individual in the district they represent.

For Senators and Representatives, their home States would be responsible for providing them with suitable accommodations equivalent to the average home in their respective States and Districts, which the State would pay and maintain the Deed for, and their salaries would be limited to the same as the average individual in the State or District that they represent. It would also be illegal for any Senator or Representative to receive any emoluments whatever from any source other than the pay for their services, with the exception that they may continue to receive money from any business or concern that they owned prior to being elected to office (which would have to be operated by a Trust while they were in Office), but they may not keep any monies from those business's or concerns acquired pursuant to their Congressional actions.

POTUS would similarly be limited to receiving an income equivalent to that of the average American citizen, thought he would still be allowed to reside in the White House.

Great idea, too bad something like that would never pass. Hell then the people up in Washington might actually be motivated to improve the conditions for people in their state.
