Default Moody AFB

Has anyone ever worked on the flight line at Moody AFB, in Georgia? I have a week left of my tech school, and that is my first assignment. I haven't had any instructors that have ever been there, and the very few people I've met all said that the place wasn't very nice. I was just curious and a little anxious to actually hear something good about where I"m headed.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but the people I've talked have said it's kind of crappy as well. You could just volunteer for Korea.

The one good thing about Moody? It isn't Minot. Like any flightline, it is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. The mosquitoes are the size of T-37's and can haul off small dogs.

Seriously though, every assignment is unique and what you get out of it will depend a lot on what you put into it.

Unless things have changed, as a first termer, you can get orders after a year so go there, get your 5-level and put in for orders. Volunteer to go to Korea and you will find yourself in the Land of the Morning Calm before you know it.

Good luck.

Vermont is actually just about right in the summer, the winter however is a whole different animal.

I guess that's all I can do is make the best of it. I will have to study hard and pass my CDC's and then work on getting my five level. I don't know about Korea. I heard I will end up there sooner or later. My orders say I will be working in the phase dock though. I still haven't been able to get ahold of my flight chief to confirm that though.

Have you been able to get in touch with anyone at Moody? They should have someone set up as a sponsor to contact you and make sure everything is going somewhat smoothly when you arrive.

...Georgia...
That's all I would need to hear, and I'd volunteer in a half-heartbeat. Granted, I'm a beer drinkin, Skoal chewin, Jeep drivin, pistol packin, certified redneck from the hills of SC....so GA is daggone near home for me. GA is nice....hot in the summer, "chilly" in the winter. Plenty of huntin, fishin, and down home good country cookin!! You'll like GA....you're just across the Okefenokee from me (I'm at King's Bay). Bring bug spray, but the gators are cool!

One of the controllers I worked with at Lackland used to be at Moody. From what she told me its slow but Billyd's right, each assignment is unique. I mean I'm 1/4 way done with my A school and might be getting orders to either fly UAVs or get on an LPD out of Norfolk (from what I put on my dream sheet) so my first operational command's going to be interesting.

I've called twice now, and can't get ahold of anyone in the squadron I'm supposed to be going to. I've been calling the number I was given to call from a regular cell phone and no one answers. So come Monday I'm going to call the DSN number from the base.

And Ping...I'm not from as far down south as you are, but I grew up in West Virginia, so I'm pretty excited to return to the east coast. I like the outdoors so I think I should be alright down there.

That's not uncommon. When I PCS'd to Korea (coincidentally because I disliked my first base) I couldn't contact anyone until the week my flight left--despite it being a 24-hr facility. Even when I was en-route to my first assignment after training, I couldn't get anyone on the phone. The first contact I had with anyone from my gaining unit was at the airport in San Antonio where some guy was holding a sign with the name of my new unit. I don't know how they knew to send someone to pick me up, but it all worked out in the end.
