Cool New Personal Record

The other day during a rifle match I shot a 275! that's the highest I've shot, but I hope to shoot higher next time. I think my team is going to state this year. Does any body else have a rifle team at their school?

We do, but we're currently held back by old rifles with poor sights. Our top shot at any meet has been 236. My highest currently is a 226. We've got brand new CO2s with brand new sights though for next year, so we're hoping to take #1 in the league.

Don't blame poor marksmanship on their M4.
I have poor eyesight, but given enough time, I can adjust to any weapon placed in my hands. If you KNOW your rifle shoots high and to the right, you adjust. The weapon is only a tool, your application of the tool is what scores those points. Blaming poor marksmanship on the weapon, not matter what it is, shows an unwillingness to learn the characteristics of the weapon.

Good job Delta Farce on scoring a personal best.

I absolutely agree...unless you are exceeding the capabilities of the weapon. The Kel-Tec P-3AT was created to be a last-ditch him-or-me pistol designed to shoot at about 3 yds. Expecting a 1" grouping at 25 yds, even if you're Rob Leatham, is not realistic. While a huge amount rests on the shooter, the weapon does factor.

Congrats on the personal best, Delta Farce...every time you go to the range, push yourself to shoot better than you did the time before.

Congrats on the record. Being that I am AFJROTC and there are so few units with competing rifle teams in the country, I'm interested in learning a few things about it. What are the rifles you use (brand, caliber, model number, etc), the ammunition, and type of range (indoor/outdoor, length, etc.). Thanks!

Well, considering the fact that even our Major or 1SG can not place multiple shots in the same hole, I think it's fairly safe to assume that the rifles themselves completely needed a renewal. My rifle required more trigger pull strength than a shotgun and/or pistol. Good luck getting an accurate shot with that. (We're not allowed to weaken the springs or whatnot.)

As for saying my personal skill lacks, if you give me a decent gun (generically covering rifles in here too, I know the difference), I can do a very acceptable grouping, sometimes even multiples through the same hole depending on how comfortable I am with the weapon.

So, ultimately, I'm hoping that we can customize these CO2 rifles as we need to and create a winning team. I know for a fact the first thing I'm doing is wearing my trigger spring down to weak.

We don't have a Rifle Team due to no where to practice. Congrats though, keep it up.

We have German imports (starts with an f I don't know how to spell it but it's like the one in my signature) and Daisies. We shoot inside at 35 yards, which doesn't seem like much but it's a lot harder than it looks. As for the caliber it's .177, usually high accuracy pellets. I use the German import and I'm the captain of my team. Today I'm supposed to find out if we go to state or not But I'm pretty sure we're fourth in our region and at the last check on individual ranking I was 11Th in the region, I think there's around a hundred or so shooters in our region.

Sounds pretty cool, and I know about yardage and how 35 yds with a small bore CO2 powered shot will go. What is the muzzle velocity for standard shooting, say 2 shots a minute? And I'd like to see the German rifle, if you have a chance, post up the name/link or something so you can show me, or I can go and find it.
