Still know how to PMCS a buffer.

Know that most of life's problems can be solved by applying the eight steady hold factors.

Believe that "Nuts" wasn't exactly all that BG McAuliffe said to the Krauts at Bastogne.

Know the true meaning of the word Hooah.

Don't know how to use a "stress card".

Idolize John Wayne.

Know why you should carry two field dressings on your LBE.

Know that the vertical butt stroke is not a sexual position.

Don't believe that "AAFES" needs a "commander".

Don't need "leadership tabs" to know when they're in charge.

Don't have to "do a Lewinski" to get a "one block".

Don't give a damn if they get a "one block".

Won't brief it if it's too complicated to fit on a few 3x5 cards.

Really don't like taking crap from those who haven't "been there".

Know how to properly construct a field latrine.

Can set the headspace and timing on a "fifty" by touch alone.

Know how to do a "daisy chain".

Would rather be OPFOR than MOPP 4.

Know that the new OER system is as screwed up as the old one.

Think that the neutron bomb would be appropriate for the GWoT scenario.

Don't believe a damn thing the Iraqis say.

Want to be like Teddy Roosevelt.

Love the smell of napalm in the morning.

Know that "napalm" is really called "incendi-gel".

Don't need a GPS to find themselves.

Know that it really is possible to crawl inside a Kevlar when someone's shooting at you.

Have enough extra TA-50 in their closets to start a surplus store.

Think that MREs taste good.

Would like to see what kind of creature "ham and chicken loaf" comes from.

Realize that there were no starving people in Somalia.

Know that "accuracy counts", especially in combat.

Know the Ranger Creed by heart.

Still have jungle fatigues in their closets.

Believe that terrorists can be taken care of for 32 cents each (the cost of a .45 round).

Can be found eating and bunking with the troops.

Are convinced that "wall-to-wall counseling" really works.

Have more time on a static line than most other soldiers have in the chow line.

Know that it's not real coffee if you can't stand a track jack up in it.

Don't blame poor marksmanship on their M4.

Know that shitty leaders will always say they have shitty soldiers.

Discuss between yourselves.

Guilty on all accounts except for the Ranger Creed. I was never a Ranger. However, I believe that being an old Marine more than makes up for that!

OK, if the boondocker fits...but I predate some of those (now C-Rations did taste good! - even if they were two years older than I when I ate 'em). Wouldn't know the 'Ranger Creed' if it jumped out at me, but substitute 'The Rifleman's Creed' and we're good to go. And you can keep your neutron bomb - just plain, old-fashioned 'dumb bombs' and 'real' rifles, with your annual qualification score determined by hits on the survivors as they swarm out of the target zone.

Ha! I was eating those that were made around your time! We had some good names for the courses too.......

When the MREs came it out, I never understood why they would give use something that needed to be rehydrated while we were in the middle of the desert! Water was at a premium.

I cut my teeth on the old "C" Rations. I still have a recipe book for all the neat meals you could make out of them.

Do you remember pound cake? OMG, top it with cocoa powder mixed with a 1/4 cap full of water and you have a chocolate birthday cake to remember!

I still have a couple of c-rat can openers. I even keep one on my survival 'di-di' pack. They are still the best can openers that you can get.

You think the MRE's require water. Had you ever tried "K" rats? The very first freeze dried rations. They were a hot ticket for anyone going out to the bush for a long trip with no chance of re-supply until you returned. I used to eat them without re-constituting them in the pack; then drink water. If you ate too much, you looked like a pygmy after an elephant feast!

I also started out on C-rats. I really enjoyed the eggs and the pound cakes. Also with the first MREs, I also ate them first then drank water after. Never took the time to let them soak.

I understand they have some new MREs coming out - dehydrated, but you can use any type of water to reconstitute them. They have a bacteria filter in them. And yes if you are in the desert you can piss in them to make them eatable. Saw this on a NG show.
