Question Air Force PTUs: Love em or Wash em

So I've heard many complaints about the new Air Force PTUs.
You know the ones I'm talking about.

I've heard everything from "they're too short" to "they make noise when we run" to "why can't they be issued in pink (don't ask don't tell)."

But has anyone run into the same problem I have?
ei: I can't wash the freaking things.

My complaint is mostly about the wind-breaker-style pants and jackets. Anytime I try to wash the red brick that our track is made of out of these things they go through the washer okay but then sck up so much water in the space between wind-breaker and lining that it's like puting a bag of wet sponges into the dryer and takes twice as long to dry.

Anyone else having this problem or is it time for me to break down and start sending my PTUs to the dry cleaners (yuck... that's an awful thought).

It happens. If I'm not mistaken, the AF PTUs are based off the Army's IPFUs, and my pants and jacket do the same thing when I wash them. One of the downfalls of the material, but aside from the shorts being too short (seriously, who still wears shorts that high off their knee?) I have no complaints about the IPFUs.

My Raider team wears the IPFU's but with AJROTC instead of Army. I wash them by hand and let them dry outside. I never wear the shorts when I run(only when I am swimming), I would never wear those in my Neighborhood or school!!!

The shorts are definitely way too short. Let's put it this way, I'm a small guy at 5'6 and thin. When someone like me has to be issued XL Shorts, there is a problem.

There's a reason only the girl is wearing the shorts in that photo...but yeah, I really wouldn't mind wearing them just because they're short, They're probably WAY more easy to run in than wearing modern style NBA shorts...

The added "benefit" of the shorts is the included undergarment that comes stiched into them - like a bathing suit. It makes it really comfortable...

Don't even get me started on that crap, it's awful. Also the shorts in general don't do much for repelling water. We ran our PT Test this past summer out on the flight-line while it was raining and my shorts and boxers were absolutely drenched by the end of it. Plus the shorts tend to give you one heck of a wedgie.

Well, the Span... err, "biker shorts" helped with that problem for me. Still uncomfortable at times, but I don't have fabric digging into places it shouldn't.

Yeah I generally wear the spandex when I run, or play soccer, but I forgot to bring them with me. Let's just say it was not a pleasant feeling the rest of the day.

Just one more reason I am glad that it says "RETIRED" under my service block! Some of the Uniform changes have been pretty lame as of late. I for one am glad I don't have to deal with it.
