It would have been politically incorrect, racist, and insensitive to profile the man.

Screw Political Correctness. If it means protecting our tails and preventing things like this from happening, then do whatever it takes. If there is a reasonable suspicion about someone that has credible sources, act on it, plain and simple. The FBI dropped the ball, plain and simple.

I'm just waiting for the other inmates at Leavenworth to get ahold of his worthless ass.

I have no idea what it is called these days, but in the way distant past the Air Force operated a program called the Human Reliability Program that became the Personal Reliability Program. All Aviators and personnel with access to nuclear weaponry were constantly screened. This event certainly should cause concern for the system as this fellow was not your Snuffy Smith doing a little pot.

The answer, simply, is that Islam and Muslims are not our enemy. Not directly. Not really any more so than your average NASCAR-loving redneck is our enemy. Yeah, he may have some guns in the closet, but he's not actively planning to blow up Fort Knox nor kill ATF agents. Your average Muslim doesn't want to kill anybody, doesn't want to blow himself up, doesn't want anything to do with the bullshit our enemy engages in. And it's a good thing, too.

With conservative estimates placing the world Muslim population at 1.5B souls, the less than 1/100th of a percent of the world Muslim population that is giving us trouble with planned terrorist acts, with armed action in Iraq and Afghanistan, with insurgency in other parts of the world, etc, represents less than nothing on the grand scale. Guys like this aren't indicative of anything relevant. Except that crazy jackasses exist in the world and in the Army.

Anybody remember William Kreutzer, Jr.? I'll help you out -- Fort Bragg, opened fire on PT formation, 1995, not a Muslim.

American Muslims are not the enemy any more than Japanese-Americans were during WWII, Korean-Americans were during that war, or Vietnamese-Americans were during that war. You can buy all the brain-washing arguments that you want. Fortunately for all of us, the reality is very far from.

This cat was a psycho, nothing more, nothing less. The FBI fubared the chance to stop him early. Shocking, I know.

Come on now, that first comment hit's a li'l close to home...we're merely misunderstood.

That number is quite worrisome to say the least...we haven't seen anythin' from these folks yet. Funny how the Quran speaks about killin' the infidel...sounds like most Americans to me. I'm sure not all of 'em are bad, just as I'm sure not all inmates are guilty...better safe than sorry further down the road!

Just my nickel's worth

Just for the record, I wasn't calling ALL Muslims the enemy...although common sense and prudence demand keeping VERY close tabs on all of them who serve. But this one twisted, cowardly jackass...HE was most definitely an enemy. Yet nothing was done to remove him.

And why is that, you ask? I answered you the first time. It's the nanny-istic,doogoodism, touchy feely, leave no scumbag behind, gender/creed/religion neutral political correctness otherwise known as globalistic multiculturalism. That's change you can believe in.

I thought shrinks were supposed to have their own shrinks to stop them going mad .
I guess if you have gone mad you don't realise or care.Sounds like he went mad rather than became a terrorist. How no one spotted him is going to raise questions.
