I thought that "separate but equal" had been ruled unconstitutional, but it would appear than the NEA now thinks that it's a really good idea.
The Need for a Diverse Teaching Staff (http://www.nea.org/home/15200.htm)
"It is also important to expose children to a diverse teaching staff within each of our schools.
Every child has a basic right to a great public school with a qualified and caring staff, including educators who look like them, who share similar cultural experiences, and who can serve as role models demonstrating that education and achievement are things to be respected..."
Now I'm sure that someone is going to take exception to this, but whatever happened to the concept of hiring the most qualified people REGARDLESS of "race, creed, color, sex, or national origin"? What happened to the concept of us becoming a homogeneous and "color blind" society where people were judged solely on ability? I guess that concept just got tossed in the crapper since the NEA has concluded that it's obviously more important for a child's development to have someone standing up in front of them that looks like them, talks like them, acts like them, and has a similar cultural background, which means that if we follow that to it's logical conclusion why even send kids to school in the first place? If all you need to learn is someone who looks like you, talks like you, acts like you, and has a similar cultural background, then their PARENTS are obviously the best choice of all to teach children.
