I cannot comment on the nature of the boards as I am not educated in such. What I can say is that you are still in the running and have a shot at a scholarship because your application is up for another review. Usually for scholarships, there are basically rounds or maybe draft picks, it doesn't matter which way you put it. What matters is that a board meeting a single time does not determine all the recipients of a scholarship, they have multiple meetings. Each meeting would narrow down the selections starting with the highest ranked and accepting them, and then on down the chain until the slots are filled. You have placed high enough to go into round two of selection and still have a shot there.

That's the best I can do, maybe a current or past AFROTC cadet can either affirm or dispel my statement and give you something exact.

The way it reads to me, they didn't pick you this time around, but based on whatever it was in your application they felt that it was strong enough to review again. Maybe that written confirmation will give you a better clarification of their decision. Either way, don't get discouraged.

You may have missed the first board (December), but the boards go all the way to March (The last I believe is the end of March). They meet the end of each month til then. The next one starts meeting the 23rd and ends later this month.

The first thing the boards do (these are the words of my AFJROTC SASI and AF Academy Counselor) is 'rack and stack'. SAT scores, ACT scores, GPA, class rank, anything quantitative. Then they review the other aspects of each applicant (AFJROTC recommendations, resume, CLEP and AP tests, writing sample, as well as PT scores.)

If you were ranked high enough to move into the next board, really, have no worries.

Hey everyone,

I checked the status of my afrotc application and it read:

Your application met the board and you were not selected for a scholarship. However, based on your rank on the board, your application will be meeting the next board. You will be receiving written confirmation via mail within the next few weeks.

Can anyone help me? Do I still have a shot? I heard that the December board were mostly type 1 scholarships, is this true?

Cadet, the fact that the board sat on you and did not reject your app out of hand is a good sign. Right now all commissioning paths are becoming more and more restricted, ROTC with scholarship option especially. With the ongoing force shaping initiaves, the Air Force is being very selective on who it grants scholarships to. Keep your chin up and keep an eye on the next board. With any luck you'll get the thumbs up and be able to move forward. Best of luck!

Congratulations on receiving your national. Now the big question is where are you going to go? To be personally honest with you one of the best, if not the best, places to go is Det. 847. WE are the best in the SW and 3rd best in the nation, and if you wanna fly you're best bet would be with us.

Once again congrats, and may God guide you in the right direction. Where ever that may be.

haha oh and a little bit of advice from being a recipient myself. Make sure the major you selected you absolutely love. There are so many rules, regs, and items that keep you on your toes, and not to mention in the books. If you would like any help just let me know. :afgarrison:
