I was just wondering what everyone's favorite uniform is; whether it is "Greens", "Blues", previous uniforms, or other service uniforms.

I love field attire. The BDU's were great, I remember wearing my cousin's when I was younger. What the Marine Corps has done now with the MARPAT is even better in my opinion.

My favorite uniform are Marine Dress BLues, I can not wait until I have earned the title so I can wear Marine Dress Blues.
My favorite AJROTC uniform are the Dress Blues I wear to the ball and for performances, and public affairs.

The ACU's would have to be my favorite uniform. I like them because they are really comfortable and even if the velcro wears out and is loud, it is faster to put on and has lots of pockets.

ACUs. As-for-class and the various dress uniforms are all uncomfortable (though full dress, especially over white, looks great).

I always thought the Navy Choker Whites looked awesome, although I hear they can be uncomfortable to wear. As far as uniforms I've actually worn, I'd have to say Full Dress "Crackerjack" Blues.

For mess dress, dress, service uniforms and utilities, I'm Marine Corps all the way (in regards to the "cool" factor). Mess, specifically, I prefer the USMC NCO version, and for dress, I like the enlisted version the best. Marines have the best looking uniforms, hands down. In regards to actual utility or comfort, I'm not the one to ask!

USMC uniforms are the best. Top of that list would be the USMC officers Blue Mess Dress uniform where the Tunic is hooked at the neck and open at the bottom. Add the Boatcloak to it and you can go anywhere you want.

Since I am in the Army now, I will say that the Army WWII "pinks and greens" are pretty classy.

Whoever thinks the ACU is a great 'uniform' obviously does not have to wear it day to day. The absolute WORST uniform ever conceived from the demented minds on the Army Uniform Board. They should be locked away for stupidity before they come up with something else that will get someone killed.

My favorite uniform is the Army Dress Blues, I just joined color guard this year so I am one of the 8 in the school who have them. Also I liked DCU's and BDU's it just felt right wearing them. They were comfortably worn in and mine were still in good condition. No matter what uniform I am wearing, I love seeing people's reactions.

What are you talking about? ACU's suck! It was hilarious. I had one guy on my raider team wearing them, and he was around 100 yards away next to a guy in woodlands. he stuck out like a sore thumb and I couldnt even spot the guy in woodlands. this is pretty sad, because given hown thick vermonts woods are, you couldnt spot a solid red banner 20 feet in front of your face using binoculars.

A uniform should be judged on the criteria it was designed for. I can say that my computer makes a great paperweight, but is sucks when it comes to actually being a computer.

The ACU is supposed to be a combat uniform, not a day-to-day sitting in the office uniform, although since the Army is a war - someone decided it should be the uniform that recruiters should wear as well.....:(

Match an Army recruiter in ACUs up to a US Marine recruiter in their uniform and there is no comparison on who looks more professional. And the last I heard, the USMC was in the fight too.

You are not the only one in this thread who said they liked the ACU's, but none of them have been on active duty where they have been shot at while wearing them. And I guarentee that out of those that are on active duty - very few have had to a mission in the nice lush green jungle - like me. I kept (and will still wear) my modified woodland and desert (BDU & DCU) patterned uniforms for such an occasion when I need to wear them.

If someone wants to tell me that I must wear my ACUs while in the jungle, then I will ask them to take one patrol with me and they will be the only ones wearing them. Let them think about how much a target they have just become. Let them wear a uniform that is loud (velcro), that falls apart (velcro and the seams), that can't be repaired in the field if it breaks (zipper vs. buttons that can), actually costs more to maintain (repairs, unserviceable or lost patches, etc), and last but not least - any Joe can steal them and put their own name tape on them.

ACUs are comfortable? Ok, so were the BDUs and DCUs. A coffin is comfortable to - when you are dead.

ACUs SUCK. Period.

(And I forget - this is the Cadet section)

I'm not one for trying to start a flame war in a thread, but here are my two cents.

I think a lot of people prefer things they were "used" to or the way "things used to be" for no real reason, like in the Air Force when people would complain about going to a baseball hat over the BDU PC or vice versa.

As someone who wore BDU's and DCU's for six years, I can honestly say for me that ACU's are far more comfortable and lighter. Serving as an Infantryman in a Cav Troop, we don't go crawling up the mountains sneaking up on some lone bad guy where velcro is an issue, we roll out in up armors and then get to a point, dismount and go straight up a mountain or whatever it is we need to be.

ACU's are also far better camo than I could have thought possible. Even in NTC I would vocally disparage the pattern and say the Army was just jealous the Marines had a new uniform. However, in Alaska during Platoon ex-evals the ACU blended in astonishingly well against the snowy forest and here in Afghanistan, it is an excercise in "Where's Waldo" trying to find Soldiers on a mountain wearing ACU's.

I had ONE ACU tear on me in my first deployment to NTC - and that was one I had since Basic, and I wasn't being gentle on it.

As for simply switching names...it doesn't take that long to dig a knife under the sewn BDU nametapes and take them off. I just put my last name and last four on the inside of my uniforms in permanent marker.

I don't care much for the velcro, and I'm not a fan of the zipper as opposed to buttons, but like I said, I'm not Ranger Rick or Green Beret Gary where I suppose that's a huge issue.

I like the idea of inserts for knee and elbow pads, though I still use knee pads that you put on the outside, and I really love the drawstrings on the leg cargo pockets. Thanks to those bad boys, I don't need to buy a dump pouch for my empty mags.

Between the ACU's and class A's, ACU's. I've never been comfortable in dress blues/Class A's. I feel like I'm in trouble when I wear them.

For active duty uniforms I love the Marine Corp dress blues and the Army Dress Blues. Marine Corp being the best though.

In JROTC I loved wearing my dress uniform in NJROTC. I liked them all really, the Salt n Peppers, dress and working khaki. I enjoyed wearing them all. Though I look at the MCJROTC uniforms and kinda wish my unit was a MCJROTC unit and not NJROTC.

Chalk me up in the part with guys say the ACUs have issues.

I like the ACUs, but they can be improved....A LOT.

I like the designs of the pockets and the ease of movement. Not a big fan of the name tape/US. Army velcro, not really a fan of the colors used in the camo pattern (but I do like the digital camo) and conducting any type of IMT in sand exagerates the issues with the velcro on the rest of the uniform.

In the woods the ACU's are atrocious. In the grass though they work very well. I have never been deployed or in a combat situation but I don't think velcro makes a damn bit of tactical sense. For look, I like them. Velcro I think is great in garrison, but in the field it makes absolutely no sense. I've never had problems with them tearing though, and I've been rough on mine. I really like the look of the Army green Class A uniform, though it's not exactly comfortable. Never worn blues. I don't like the look of the new ASU though...

I have to say, I really enjoyed my BDU's much better than ACU's. I live in a cold area and let me tell you, you don't want to be caught outside in the winter with ACU's on. BDU's are thicker so they have more insolation, plus I bought the regulation field jackets that go with the BDU's so I can wear my jacket without being out of uniform. Have you guys heard about FFW (Future Force Warrior?) It looks pretty cool.

It is a little scary how high tech they are trying to make a uniform though. I mean they are making a HUD and an air conditioning system built in to the uniform!

The ACU's are based off the Enhanced Hot Weather BDU's, which were the warm weather BDU's we had prior to the switch. The temperate weather BDU's are probably the uniform you had, which were a bit thicker. I never really liked the temperate BDU's, especially when I wore them starched and pressed. The warm weather BDU's were much more comfortable to me. Personally, even in below zero temperatures, I was still wearing warm weather BDU's in Korea. Same preference goes with boots. I actually don't own any issue style temperate weather tan boots (I came in when BDU's were still being issued, so I had black ones), but the cold weather boots I do own are much more comfortable than the issue style boot, and though I do have cold weather boots unless I'm in an area where it is extremely cold (around those below zero temperatures), I'm always found wearing boots that are considered warm weather boots. Here's the catch with all that though. I do own "snivel" gear, and when temperatures are appropriate I will wear the appropriate clothing for the temperature (thicker socks if I'll be outside all day for example), and have a field jacket and fleece sweater for those cold days as well.

BDU's winter and summer weight?

Those are the common names. If you look at the tag inside the clothing, it refers to them as Temperate and Enhanced Hot Weather.

I never liked the Enhanced Hot Weather BDUs. They had a tendency to wear out too quickly and fade like you wouldn't believe. I found that the Temperate weather BDUs took starch a lot better and held creases longer, especially when you were out of startch. Even on hot, humid Florida days.

That is what I guessed sergeant, I am wondering why people creased there BDU's when the only creases really authorized where the ones on the sleeves (I know it was to give more elegance/beauty to a utility uniform). But why, was it at your commander’s discretion. Why do people also make a big deal of starch lighting up NVG's like a light-bulb while commercial laundry detergent is just as bad?

From what I was told the laundry detergent with brightener was against the regs when the ACU's first came about but that has since come out of the regs. The only thing against them is starch. Now I haven't looked at the regs myself to check, that's just what I've been told but it comes from a guy who knows the regs inside and out so I'd bet he's right.

Detergent should not alter the IR absorbtion of your uniform, if it's anything like the AUSCAM IR's we're being issued, and being the US army it's going to be of equal or better quality than the Aussie issued stuff.

Starch, i'm not sure. I think they'd take into consideration that soldiers will starch thier uniform. However on the flipside, starch is washed out... so maybe they assume the starch will wash out and when in the field the uniforms will remain IR negative, as it's the Dyes that are IR negative if i recall.

All this said and done, yours truly is wearing IR shirts and Cavvie pants so through the NSE's i look like a pair of legs...

Sorry I can't say I like the WWII uniform. It looks rather I don't know, out of place with all the other dress uniforms. I really like my Army Dress Blues, except for the cover. It gets in my way when I am doing color guard. I am still pretty fond of my Class A's though (My battalion is going to be transitioning within the next few years.)
