From what I just heard on the TV, the pilot ejected safely, but three homes (the one it crashed into, and the two surrounding) are gone. The pilot belongs to VMFAT-101 out of MCAS Miramar.

Let's hope that no one was injured or killed in this, as neither reports state if there has been or not. Insurance should cover the lost property, I suppose, if not maybe the military is into reimbursement? Anyways, I hope for no injury or worse, and that this situation be sorted out quickly.

I wish I could say it ain't true, but in a press conference being held right now (SDFD, SDPD and the USMC), officials on the ground report two fatalities.

Didn't see that coming. Damn, do we know anything about the dead, or the status on the pilots?

The pilot was alright; ejected safely and was taken to the Balboa Naval Hospital, a few miles down the road from the crash.
Now reports are saying it's 4 people. 3 confirmed dead, one missing. Wife, grandmother and two kids. The husband aparrently got the call from his neighbor telling him to get home, ASAP.

Will anyone be held responsible for the deaths? Does anyone know what malfunctioned?

This will most likely turn into a game of "pin the blame on the donkey": possible pinning locations include Boeing, the maintenance chief, or the pilot. At least the pilot is safe, although I'm sure he feels horrible after what happened.

Well he'll never fly again undoubtedly. It's unfortunate that this happened, but it happens, and the legal battle that will ensue will reach out to a whole lot of sources, and one will never really be properly 'pinned.'

Why would that be? Aircraft have various types of problems that occur that no one has any control over. Let's wait until the Navy completes its investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident. They will pour over the records of this aircraft and interview everyone who touched it from the crew chief to the guy who pumped the gas to determine what went wrong. There are a lot of unaswered questions and until they have those answers, we, sitting in our proverbial armchairs, should not speculate as to whether this Marine will fly or not.

True, I apologize. But you are most certainly correct, everyone and his grandmother will be questioned all over hell's half acre on this. It should be quite a bit of news in due time.
Where do you think the money will come from to pay for reparations to the civilians involved? Will insurance companies cover that, or the military? Maybe a combination?

The father / husband was just interviewed on local news infront of his house. His two children were 1 month, and 15 months....
God Bless him.

He'll be in my prayers...what a mess. Pray for the pilot, as well, as I'm sure he feels horrible about the whole thing (whether it was his fault or not).

Any news yet on the investigation? I have not seen that incident on the news either, but I probably won't because of where I live.

It was on national news (read: FOX, CNN, MSNBC, etc.) for the first few days after it happend, so if there's any breaking developments in why it happend, you'll probably hear about it.
As of now, though, there haven't been any (at least that I've heard, and I live 10 miles away). If there are, I'll definitely post them here for everyone.
