View Full Version : What are the requirements to become Battalion Commander?

I am currently a sophomore C/SGT at my school.
I have my mind set on becoming the Battalion Commander my Senior Year, and was wondering if there were any specific universal guidelines, or it depends on the SAI/AI's preference.
I have a 4.0 GPA, probably the most knowledgeable out of all the other cadets at my level, led the Unarmed Regulation Platoon at a Drill meet and got 1st place, but there is only one problem.
I had a SCSI at my school the other day for excessive tardies(about four minutes at most, school starts 7:30, i'd get there 7:35)
Now is this a problem? Or is it something that will not interfere with my goals? Or does it all depend on what my SAI/AI's have set?
One more thing is that I have not yet been a part of my Raider Team.
P.S. Is it a problem if there are spaces like this in my post? Just easier on the eyes.:p

Each instructor chooses their staff differently. What may impress my old SAI may not impress your current SAI as far as selection to BC goes.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Also, on another note, I saw that there was gold chord awarded for honors activities and societys. What exactly does that mean?

I'm not in AJROTC, but since a gold cord is a uniform item, wouldn't it be contained in the uniform manual for your program?
BTW,
Cord: a line made of twisted fibers or threads; "the bundle was tied with a cord".
Chord: three or more different notes that sound simultaneously.

The use of cords isn't governed by CCR 145-2.
www.usarmyjrotc.com Become familiar with that website, especially how to navigate to the previously mentioned regulation. That is the Army JROTC Bible.

Amen to that, BNCO is not based on regulations you may do everything and be the best but if your SAI hates you kiss that dream of being BNCO good bye. It is good to have a good JROTC Career but it is way better to learn form JROTC to have a great Military Career, we are not here to attain a certain position but to Learn Leadership and Discipline. My unit uses Gold Cords for our Raider team.

One more thing, is the staff for the following year chosen by the SAI or by the current BC/Staff?

Once again, that depends on how your SAI runs the battalion. It can be either one or a combination of the two.

Your welcome, don't let anyone tell you can't do it. I believe in you, anything you want to do you can achieve, all you need is determination and Self-Perseverance and a little luck.
