I spent four years in AFJROTC while in high school in AZ. There I marched on the drill team which swept meets across the state (80-83). I was even given the privilege to command the team for my last two years. I was also a percussionist for all four years with the marching band, drum major my last year.

After going to Army Basic Camp (AROTC) at Ft. Knok, Ky. I attended New Mexico Military Institute where I was drum major of the band again. I left NMMI to enlist in the USAF May 16, 1985.

After Basic I was sent to Ft. Belvoir, VA for Reprographics school at the Defense Mapping Agency. I was stationed in RAF Upper Heyford, England (4 yrs) where I was involved with Drum Corps United Kingdom writing and teaching drill and judging visual and percussion programs.

Then I went to Davis Monthan in Tucson, AZ (4yrs) where I joined the Base Honor Guard and was made the Asst. NCOIC. This BHG had a drill team which I ended up commanding and teaching. Locally, I worked with three high school marching bands writing and teaching drill for them. I developed, from scratch, the one-time Aerospace and Arizona Day JROTC Drill Meet at the base and invited many schools from across the state that I competed against when I was in school.

In the early '90s I was stationed in the Netherlands (HQ AFCENT) where I was asked to create and train the area's first Joint Service Honor Guard. We performed all over Holland, Belgium and into France. I also worked with Drum Corps Holland and Color Guard Nederland and trained first-time AFJROTC cadets to attend a summer leadership school.

After five years in Holland I was sent for a four-year tour at Shaw AFB, SC. There, I retrained into the Unit Training Manager career field, met my wonderful wife (also ADAF) and worked for a short time training the Honor Guard and judged three drill meets.

From there my wife and I were sent for three years to Kadena AB on Okinawa, Japan. There I created the now widely used Base Honor Guard Plans of Instruction for training Airmen in every aspect of the Honor Guard. Performing with and training dozens of Airmen was an excellent experience which led to forming another Joint Service Honor Guard with the other services on the island. I was a clinician for the AFJROTC there as well.

I retired from Active Duty in 2005 after 20 years and have followed my wife to our current duty station, Travis AFB, CA. I now judge with the Pacific Coast Judges Assoc. and am finishing my latest version of my book, Exhibition Drill for the Military Drill Team.

I'm currently a student with Master's International School of Divinity finishing my BA in Theology and currently enrolled in a double masters program (M.Th./MDIV).

Lastly I've developed a standardized judging system for drill meets for implementation nation wide. The draft of the manual is complete and the judges computer-based training modules are next on the list to do.
