View Full Version : Stealing Routines?

Yesterday the drill team at my school held a competition and when it came to Unarmed Exhibition we found that one school was using our exact same routine (which we have been using since last year.) Whats up with that? Isn't that grounds for disqualification or something?

Well I would say that since you've been doing it a year longer, you should be able to do it that much better.

Yes if you can prove it. If you have a video of both of your routines form last Year than yes they shold be disqualified but get evidence first before running and telling the judges, Becasue we all know competitions are fixed.

Whoa, stop, hold up! You mean to tell me that you are accusing school officials and serving/retired Soldiers of "fixing" competitions? Please, show me your evidence of this.

You know what I mean, a Team from another school has there JROTC judging that part of the Competition.

Umm, no. Every competition I ever attended in the state of Florida as a AJROTC cadet, if the instructors at the hosting school were judges, it was because it was a small meet or the inability to get enough support from outside resources. Instructors from all schools judge at the State competition, with instructions to NOT have a bias. The meet hosted by Winter Springs High School typically had a mix of instructors and Guard personnel judging. Zephyrhills High School was the site of a VFW hosted meet, which VFW members judged. So again, I ask you to support your accusation, or have you managed to insert your boot into your mouth again?

I guess this is neither a wrong or right answere or situation. I know my meets are fixed, we got a 300 on a Drill Routine and didn't even place while a school with 256 placed in second.

Sorry to say, but you can't really say a team stole your routine. Think about it this way: You make up a routine and perform it, another school likes it and decides they want to do the same. Well, because you did it first, their originality score would be basically none. Therefore if you did the same routine, the same way, they would score less.

Of course the judges will not know, so what you have to do is do it better than they can.

Anyways, you performed in public. It would just be common courtesy not to "steal" a routine from another team.

There are only so many moves, and only so many that flows well together and look good together. So with that in mind, another team COULD HAVE come up with the same routine. I will agree that they either have seen it before, or have a Video of it. Bottom line, it is the team that performs it better, looks better, and has a better presence that will come out on top. And isn't that what a competition should be?

Judging is not as easy as it looks either. Just because YOU think you did better, does not mean that there are not other factors other than the actual performance being measured.

Well I doubt that they just, "came up," with this routine since they have been to our competitions for the past few years. Lucky for us they did a god awful job and came in dead last. Unfortunately we didn't perform in this event at this competition so we couldn't show them how to do it right.

Then the only people you have to blame is yourselves. Now they didn't steal anything seeing as you guys didn't even do it lol...

What's confusing is that sentence right there. You've got more posts than anyone else on this forum; I'd hope you could take the time in proofing them...
