Since I'm seventeen, my recruiter was told that I couldn't get my selected MOS of 31B. Apparently, you have to be at least 18 to be an MP. But seeing as though I'll be 18 when I get to MP AIT, I don't see how it makes a difference. If I don't get 31B, the other MOS he can put me in is 31E. I don't really like that idea too much. I've been told that 31E and 31B train at the same place for BCT though. So if I went to basic as a 31E, I'd be trained the same way as a 31B and once I get to be 18 I can switch into a 31B slot. But first things first. Do you really have to be 18 to be an MP? In my case I'd be going to BCT while I'm 17 but to AIT when I'm 18. So for the actual job training I'd be the right age (if there is one). I don't see how this makes a difference but it might. Can anyone help me out?

Once your in the Guard, you can't reclassify for 2 years, unless its going to a direct related mos, so if you go with 31E you can't go 31B for a few years.

I know someone who signed up when he was seventeen, went through basic, came back to finish his senior year (sounds like what you're doing), and is going into the MP program. I don't know what the exact circumstances were, but maybe you should talk to a different recruiter, or maybe someone higher up.

Didn't you already get your answers by the e-mail I sent you yesterday?

To clarify for other members:

You CAN go in as a 31 Bravo at 17, but you MUST be 18 when you go to AIT for your Advanced Training, for MP, because there are certain things you do in training that require you to be this age.

As for differences between 31 B and 31 E, really, one is a Corrections Officer, the other is an MP, but often times both MOS' work hand in hand with each other. It depends on what unit you get assigned to. When I was in the FL Army NG, I got assigned to a unit at Ft Pierce that was 31 E, but still got to do my job as a 31 B, so it all depends.

You would not be able to re-classify your MOS for a few years, so think wisely in your choice, because you will be stuck with it for a while. I had to really think about my choice because I could not seem to choose between Combat Medic, or MP, both I was qualified for, both I enjoyed doing, but I could only pick one job.

I do believe I answered your questions in e-mail, so if there is nothing new, requesting this thread closed.

I didn't know if or when you might see this thread, so I thought I might as well post a thread as well as e-mail you my questions. Thanks though :D
