It's official, the United States has seen its first female of the O-10 pay grade! This is a great success and accomplishment, not only as a soldier, but as a female soldier. This is a great social and military event. Just wanted everyone to be aware.

Here's the story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081114/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/female_general

How does not having combat expirence make it BS? So if Im reading what your saying, Im a bad Soldier because I don't have any Combat Expirence, or wear a CIB?

Yeah...let's just forget those Company, Battalion, Brigade Commands or those Army level director positions...

I am sure that the General has done more than required over her long and distinguished career. It is an accomplishment that she and our Country should be extremely proud of.

Congratulations General Dunwoody!

Are you aware of the fact that women are prohibited from entering the Infantry in ANY branch? Kinda makes it hard to be in combat when we won't let them and then say they're not qualified because of it ;)....

I guess we will just have to eliminate 14% of the Active Army because they are women. What about the other 21 General Officers in the Army. Have they also not deserved their commands? Just like Jack Nicholson says in A Few Good Men, "promote 'em all". Women are just as important in command as men. Men may have more strength (not saying females aren't strong), but women have other important skills such as organization, empathy, tact.

Just like Robert De Niro says in A Few Good Men, "promote 'em all".

Actually that was Jack Nicholson.

Combat doesn't necessarily have to occur with munitions and rifles. The General had to fight stereotypes and had to prove herself to get to the top, and we would be naive to assume that there weren't men who didn't want to see a Four Star General in the Army. Just something to think about.

And the epitome of ignorance... I do not wish to belabor it, but a statement like that is unacceptable. Do you believe that every member of our armed forces sees combat. As stated before, there are plenty of other generals who have not seen combat. Should her's and their status be revoked?

I think you need to acquaint yourself with the military a lot more. Actually, you need to start, because obviously your idea of our military is all out of whack. Remember that old phrase, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?" Well that's there because usually you just end up getting slapped back...

My apologies, I knew the face but De Niro popped in my head for the name. Thanks for the correction C/1LT Hazard.

No problem. My SAI loves that movie and we watch at least twice a year. He even makes take a test on it. He was a former CID specialist, so he likes all that legal stuff.

Found out today that my SAI served under Gen. Dunwoody while he was at Ft. Bragg and said she was an excellent commander and great leader. I can't wait to see how she does, think she'll do a fine job though.

Okay,

I do realize he has been banned, but as a female, and a previous serving MP, I just wanted to add my two sense in to straighten out any confusion people may have.

First of all, well done and bravo zulu Ma'am. (I don't know how to properly spell your last name, and do appologize which is why I'm addressing her as Ma'am) Seeing a female make the first O-10 makes me proud. We need more woman who are willing to serve and determined as you are to also follow in your tracks.

Secondly, you who thinks a female can never see combat in her life is wrong. VERY wrong. I enlisted under 31 Bravo, Military Police Officer because I wanted to get the closest thing to combat. I know lots of females that have seen combat, both as officers, and enlisted. So then you also must think that Combat Engineer, or Combat
Medic, or even MP, you don't see combat? Well if that is the case, then you need to do more research because they have the word combat in their MOS, which means that yes, they do see combat. Actually, when a female deploys with a unit she is attached to, she more than likely depending on job occupation will take on more than one job, and will go out on patrols and such, so they do see combat. I know a lot of females that have seen combat, so saying a female never see's combat is wrong.

Just wanted to point that out for clarification, seeing that some seem to think that females can never see combat.

I have said my peace.

That is all..
