It seems to me, from someone doing a little bit of research, that it's getting harder and harder to get into the Air Force (especially for an officer). What I'm referring to is the following link: http://ask.afpc.randolph.af.mil/forceshape/ . Anyway, I have a few questions for the Air Force guys here:

1) I'm looking at the possibility of being an Air Force Catholic Chaplain. Are chaplains being cut as well? After all, they come in as new officers and it seems to be the junior officers who are getting the boot.

2) Is this Force Shaping going to be going on for a while? Five years? Ten years? It must have an effect on morale to have the Force Shaping hanging over the heads of people.

3) I realize that the top of the website states that there will be no Force Shaping programs for 2009, but why is that? Has the Air Force come up with a solution so they don't have to ask for involuntary separations?

Thanks for your time and I look forward to the responses I received. God bless!

Tim,

Welcome to the Forum.

The BEST bet for you would be to talk to a Chaplain Recruiter. Chaplain's are a special breed all their own and the do have their own requirements.

You may also want to view this information from Randolph AFB:

http://www.usafhc.af.mil/howtobecomeachaplain/

This page shows the phone numbers for you to call for both Guard and Active Duty.

The Chaplain Service is a pretty stable career once you gain entry. I have never heard or seen a draw down in their ranks.

Good Luck to you Sir.

Thanks for the information, TOP. I have a couple years before I can apply for the Chaplain Candidate Program, but any information is good information.
