Tattoo's.

I want tattoos. I already know what I want. On my left side(my ribcage and back and stomach) I want to get Jesus on the cross. I want to get a spider web on the web of my left hand. I want to get a outline of Georgia on my right shoulder with a big A in the middle. On my heart I got a special tattoo I'm goign to get. When I graduate from MCRDPI I want to get the Marine seal on my left bicep, and I also want to get the Iwo Jima flag raising on my back(shaded in).

DO you think any of my future tattoos wil get me in trouble? A friend has a big tattoo on his neck(RIP Granny and a Five point star) and he got a waiver do you think I could get a waiver? I also want to get a tombstone on my stomach(with RIP Lil-Devil) he got shot and killed.

How about you do some research for yourself. That would include reading the regulation that pingjockey mentioned. You have been here long enough to know that you need to do your own research prior to posting a question such as this. Why don't you spend some time finding the answer and letting us all know what you have found.

Here is what I found.
Marines are prohibited from:


a. Tattoos or brands on the head and neck.

b. Sleeve Tatoos. A sleeve tattoo is a very large tattoo, or a collection of smaller tattoos, that covers or almost covers a person's entire arm or leg.

c. Half-sleeve or quarter sleeve tattoos that are visible to the eye when wearing standard PT Gear (T-shirt and shorts). A half-sleeve or quarter-sleeve tattoo is defined as a very large tattoo or collection of smaller tattoos that covers, or almost covers the entire portion of an army or leg above or below the elbow or knee.

d. Tattoos or brands that are prejudicial to good order, discipline and morale, or are of a nature to bring discredit upon the Marine Corps. These may include, but are not limited to, any tattoo that is sexist, racist, vulgar, anti-american, anti-social, gang related, or extremest group or organization related.

Definately don't get the tat on your hand until after your time is done in the Marines. Also, don't get big things you might regret later in life after you see how much the Marine Corps can suck (only sometimes, but still).

Basically, the reg states that anything that shows in PT gear is a NOGO. Paragraph D is the "Catch all", if your command doesn't like it, you will hear about it. Wait until your first duty station, then bring the design/location you want the tat to your Platoon Sgt (up through your chain of command), he should be able to tell you if its good to go.

Geez what's happened to the Crotch? You used to have to show how many tats you had for PROs and CONs. LOL. Seriously though, I remember many Marines having half sleeves and a couple with full sleeves. Ah the changes, the changes.....I bet they even frown on bar fights now :(

My friend(two time Iraq vet) got into a bar fight and got arrested. The cops let him go when they found he was a Marine. I can't wait to be a Marine.

Don't expect that to ever happen, that is extremely lucky, nowadays if you get in a fight, most Police Officers will call the MP's on you, in which case you will be held in court under the UCMJ, and your Command will be notified, and that could lead to a written reprimand.

I may be way off base here, but for some reason I think that you have a completely skewed vision of what life is going to be like in "The Corps." It seems to me that your perception is that you will be some sort of shoot from the hip, tattooed Rambo who is above the law.

I may not be in the military, but just from the common sense side of things I think you would be a dangerous person to have in any type of team environment and I have a feeling that unless your attitude changes, dramtically, you are going to end up putting people at risk.

Just something to think about.

Oh no that is not my opinion of the Corps. My view of the COrps is passion and the only way out of a pathetic life. Where I'm from you have very little options for your future and the Marine Corps has saved me(JROTC also). I am just really passionate about the Corps.
