My SAI and AI don't supply us with ribbon attachments. Does your program give you and writ-up ribbon attachments? I would like to have some but we have a very small supply, does AJROTC use the torches or the leaf clusters?

We use lamps to denote how many times a ribbon has been awarded...

Cool, thank you very much. My SAI says they tear our ribbons up.

They do, and they break easily... that's why I just gave up on usin' them.

We use Oak leaf clusters, both bronze and silver. Bronze denotes one more time earning a ribbon, and silver, five. The unit provides them.

My AJROTC knowledge isn't very deep, but I do know that AFJROTC uses Oak Leaf Clusters to denote how many times a cadet has earned a specific ribbon.

Same here, that's pretty much a standard in AFJROTC. I have seen AJROTC cadets with devices such as oak leaf clusters, but sadly have no source to site from. Most of the time, issues with uniforms, including ribbon and device wear, are covered between individual units and their HQ, so its hard to find standardized information on a lot of these topics.

Also, my unit has instituted a new policy, and I don't believe that this is happening in any of the other local units, but when cadets participate in the E2C program they get the ribbon. If they pass their wellness test, they get a seperate E2C ribbon (Same design) and it comes with a silver star on it.

The star is only used to distinguish the Scottish Rite and the Military order of the purple ribbons(they are the same color). You have to put the star on it, it's not provided. My AI told me to put it on my medal to.

Ah.
To all the AFJROTC Cadets:
We wear Lamps to denote how many times a ribbon has been awarded.
Bronze = Second
Silver = Third
Gold = Fourth
Over fourth, you just add on another bronze lamp (not another ribbon), and so on, and so fourth. It's highly unlikely that a Cadet will get three Gold lamps on one ribbon, but I've seen it happen before...

Thank you, thank you. I like that method better, in AFJROTC you have to keep track of your awards on paper at some point because when you reach a silver oak leaf cluster, you don't pin on more bronze clusters to denote how many you have. You just have to keep up with it and add another silver cluster when you have earned it.

That seems pretty hard Trublu. If you don't mind me asking, why can't you wear a bronze cluster to the right of the silver cluster? Thats how they do it in the military.

Maybe we can, maybe we can't. My SASI and ASI's say its a no go. I'm not sure why and didn't really inquire further, but I've talked to other AFJROTC cadets (mainly at our Cadet Officer Leadership School this past summer) and their units do the same. So I figured it was an AFJROTC wide thing, or maybe its just my region (sounds odd but I've never actually seen the silver with bronze combination).

In my unit we use Oak Leaf Clusters. My SASI, however does not give out the semester awards, so the most we can get is four oak leaves.

I could not find anything about the combination of an OLC and a SOLC in the AFJROTC Uniform and Awards Guide. However I did find something about it in the AFROTCI 36-2020. It might be at the SASI/ASI discretion to use the combination of an OLC and a SOLC.

Thanks man! I think I'm going to show my instructors this and see what they think. I would like it so much more to just keep track of my ribbons on my ribbon rack, rather than in a notebook that could be easily lost.

My battalion no longer uses them. We used to about 1-2 years ago but cadets keep losing them so that's the end of them. It is kind of upsetting because I have achieved several of my ribbons many times.

Is it a unit thing, like they aren't issuing them anymore but you can wear 'em if you have 'em? 'Cause then you just go online and order them or something like that if you have the time and money for it.

Money, psshh reach your hand into that fifth pocket of your jeans(grab about 67 cents) and you have enough for all your ribbons. They are cheap, like the butterfly clips, but they are important.

I don't know about important, but you are right they are dirt cheap.
As for NJROTC the majority of our ribbons earned more than once are set up as follows:
1st: Ribbon
2nd: 1 bronze star
3rd: 2 bronze stars
4th: 1 silver star
5th: 2 silver stars
6th: 1 gold star
7th: 2 gold stars
If you are the commander of a team you put an anchor device on the team ribbon and wear it on your right side.

I alway's wondered why I saw NJROTC cadets wearing ribbons above there right pocket. Thank's for mentioning that. I learned something new today.

I think that it is a unit thing because whenever I go to Nationals or Army Nationals I see other schools using lamps. I would go online and buy my own, but I don't have a credit card or Paypal.

Guys, if you have difficulty keeping your devices on your ribbons, do what I did. Super glue the device onto the ribbon along with its correct way of attachment. You must be really carefully when doing this cause adding too much glue will reall ruin your hard earned ribbon. Or you can watchout for your ribbons and its devices it shouldn't ruin your ribbons, my brother actually went through the AJROTC program all four years with his original ribbons and devices looking like the day he got it, and trust me he is not that neat and tidy of a guy, but he managed it.
No offense bro.

How to keep them looking new.
1.Put them on the bar.
2.When they get dirty take them of and wash them with soap and a toothbrush.
3.If they get so dirty(get a new ribbon)if you can't, take it off the bar,take it off the mount and turn the ribbon to the other side.

You have to put the silver star on the ribbon and the medal. If you don't have them in your unit go to a Military Surplus store. If you don't have a Silver star on your Scotttish rite medal and ribbon your out of regulations.

I've done the same thing except I cut off the part of the device that goes through the ribbon it keeps the ribbon look good and if the device comes off it doesn't affect the way the ribbon looks.

The key to placing devices on ribbons is to proceed with caution, no matter the method used. If you decide to rely on just the prongs on the device, you need to make sure to place the device in the correct place and when bending the prongs, to bend them as close to the device as possible. I found that a pair of needlenose pliers worked very well for this.
If you decide to use some type of adhesive substance to attach them, I have been told that the best results are to clip the prongs off at the device and utilizing a rotary tool, to hollow out a small depression on the back of the device in increas the surface area for the adhesive substance to bond with.
With either method, exercise extreme care as damage to the ribbon may occur, rendering it unserviceable.

I don't like the look of cardboard in the drape. It makes it look stiff and like a big ribbon.

I love the way it looks on Class B"s. My shirt is ful of cardboard when I wear Class B's. Is there a way to make our Offficer rabks in AJROTC look stiffer? If so are we authorized to wear Epualet SHapers? I have looked it up and haven't found anything.

Epaulet shapers (sp?) are definitely go in AFJROTC and more than likely all the other branches. I've seen cadets with these: http://www.paradestore.com/detail.aspx?ID=118, but in my opinion they don't make the ranks look any better if they are new or in a like new condition.
Oh and my class B wear consists of:
-name tag
-rank
-tie

Don't mean to bash here, but its c/Captain, not Captain... Get used to putting that "c/" before your rank, we cadets don't have that right...
