Whooooo! I'm excited and I haven't really commanded at a competition in a really long time, since my NS1 year at the first drill meet. Well I'm a little nervous even though it's our home turf I'm still a little worried. Our evaluation was Wednesday and we did good we passed so we're going to compitetion :D But I almost blanked out and forgot to call a "Right flank" after the "Column right". Any tips on how I can prepare for the drill meet? Also, what about Armed Trick. I don't think that our team will make it to the first drill meet because we have newbies and they really don't know the manuals and we have the marching down, but once again the manuals are a little off. Man, competition is a really big toll depending on how many teams you are on and if your a team CDR. :navy2:

A few things:

First, good luck at the drill competition. The best thing for you to do is to have your drill card memorized and a calm attitude going in to it. Focus on where you need to be and what time, if not you will be stressed out and it WILL hurt the team's performance. As the commander, you will need to always be in control of every situation and know exactly what's going on. If you do all that, you should be fine.

Second, on another note, the drill manuals are off? That's what you are supposed to go by, the drill manuals. If you don't teach or learn by the drill manual and then compare your training to the manual, it will be wrong in most cases. Do it by the books, they aren't wrong.

Third, a more appropriate place will be the Drill and Ceremonies group that is dedicated entirely to topics such as this. Just go to "User CP," "Networking," and "Social Groups." Find the ones you want to join and join them.

You need to remember what got you to this point. Your Training, your Teams training and that you were able to qualify for this event. That in of itself means that you and your Unit are in good shape. Allow yourself to mellow out before you start. Get some space, clear your head. Be Professional, not arrogant or too sure of yourself.

Good Luck, Stand Tall! Well Done!

I have my first competition of the year on Nov. 1 too. This will be my first time commanding for a competition, but i'm feeling pretty confident.

Good luck to you, just remember if your team is ready then you are ready.

Well thank you I will take all of this into consideration. "I have my first competition of the year on Nov. 1 too. This will be my first time commanding for a competition, but i'm feeling pretty confident." Yea I forgot how to quote. Haha, well good luck to you too. By any chance are you going to comp in New York State? T.R Proctor by any chance? Haha if so....uhhh I don't think I'll be able to find you but yeaaa hi and good luck.:navy2:

My teams first competition is also on 1 Nov. this year, and we are going to a navy school for it. It's strictly a first-year meet, but I still like going along to watch and support the team. Our next one is two weeks later in Pennsylvania! :dontgetit: Try to remember, every other cadet you're competing with is just as nervous as you may be, you just have to be the bigger man! (Or woman :))

No, I live down south in Louisiana. I can't imagine competition in NY right now you must freeze your hands off. Armed exhibition in so hard when it's cold out.

Yay well the drill meet went great but sadly Senior Basic (my team) didn't place...at all. We had a score of 69 out of 100, yea that wasn't so nice...quite sad but that's ok we'll kick butt at Mexico but I was happy when we had a 10-10 in uniform appearence:). Our alignment was off while marching, bearing at the end of dissmisal and I missed two moves...great. But that's ok because we'll work out the flaws and place this time. :D

I feel you man. JROTCdudett I don't want to insult you or anything, but why is your program letting a E-5(PO2) command a competition? I am just asking because I have never seen it before. Just wondering.

Rank means nothing in JROTC.. In my unit, I trust my cadet enlisted C/ SSGT-C/CMSGT more than i trust any of my cadet officers, the cadet enlisted are more gung-ho about getting things done and in turn, get more things done.

Also he is a Cadet PO2 not an E-5. E-5 is a paygrade in the military, and well he is not in the military.

I've commanded at competitions as a C/PFC,C/SSG,C/CSM. Really means nothing. When I was a C/SSG and commanding I had C/1SG's on the team along with C/1LT's and C/CPT's.

I am a C/ SCPO (navy for c/ MSG) and I have a c/ ensign (C/ 2lt) and a c/ lcdr (c/ maj) in my platoon that I command.

Yeah at my competition my team placed fourth out of nine and only because one cadet dropped a rifle. If he hadn't we were only ten points behind third place so we would have placed top three.

I also placed individually for academics. Third place overall with our academics team commander placed second overall. Our academics team took first place. and unarmed reg took third.

Well actually she is a she and I do get what your saying about c/ssgt becasue they want that officer rank real bad so they'll be all Gung-Ho know but when they decide they have enough chest candy or medals they'll stop.

I really don't understand what this has to do with anything we were talking about. I never heard anyone say they worked hard as a c/ssgt to be an officer. If they're anything like me I would rather be a c/ SNCO rather than an officer.
