Since what I'm about to say relates to events in this part of the forum, I'm going to put this thread here. Moderators, feel free to move it if you feel there's a more appropriate place for it.

First of all, I would like to apologize for a particular comment I made last night to Hairy. It reads as follows and originates in the thread that was just recently locked regarding religion and faith:

Attention all member of Grunt's Military Forum:

HairyEyeball is infallible and cannot be criticized or disagreed with for any reason at any time, even if criticisms/disagreements are valid and argued in a logical manner. Failure to comply will result in being severely berated and called a "child".

There is fierce debate and then there is gratuitous insult, and this comment falls in the latter category. This comment has no place in a forum of mature adults, and I apologize for making it. As someone who holds himself to a higher standard of discourse and who is attempting to follow in Christ's footsteps, I will refrain from further insults in the future.

Secondly, I would like to reaffirm my respect for every member here, cadet and adult. Regardless of how you have viewed my words and behavior thus far in the forum, I do not intend to personally offend any person here. While I am always approving of healthy debate and will continue to do so, I realize that the line between argument and insult is a fine one, and I will continue to discern where that line is in my time here on Grunt's Military Forum.

My third and final point is simply this: I think myself no better than any of you because of my professional aspirations, nor will I ever use such aspirations as leverage or ammunition in discussion with anyone here. If I have come off as somehow arrogant or pompous, please know that such appearances come from a genuine intensity within debate. It is my obligation to utilize that intensity in a manner which is wholesome and in service to the truth. That hasn't always happened thus far, and please know of my concerted effort in the future to make that wish a reality.

You are all great people, and I hope that I will learn more and more how to engage each and every one of you in a way that gives credit to the Catholic faith, my status as a Catholic seminarian, and myself as a nineteen year old adult citizen of the United States. Thanks and God bless.

Seminarian Tim

Good show. You are only responsible for your own transgressions. Good manners is what allows a community to have civil discourse. You can never increase in stature by diminishing someone else.

Apology accepted. We all have room to learn, we all sometimes overestimate our own importance, and we are all - for better or worse - the product of the sum of our experiences.

This is an uncalled for comment! This young man is trying to fit in here and learn from all of this. To admit what he has would suffice without your comment bring up something that both parties have put aside.

Bad Form in my Book!

I was so trying to stay out of this entire situation.

Kiwi, I second TOP's comment. That is bad form. You've made your opinion known (even though I take issue with the way you did it, that thread is locked, and thereby done with) but for you to continue to stoke the flame in this way here again is out of line.

Just let the boy make amends the way he wishes. Your opinions are well known now, and further extrapolation on them is not required.

Too bad, I don't give a stuff if it upsets the little darling or not. As I said and meant, it was about time he done it.

And he gave as good as he got with me. Thank you very much.

I think Top's post should have been the last word on the thread. I appreciate the support, li'l lady, but once the fire's been pretty much doused, fanning the flames benefits no one. Most of us were young and brash once, but with age and experience comes wisdom - and once someone realizes where he erred, it's pretty much over.

Heard somewhere you're newly married - isn't that supposed to make folks happy? Congrats, and enjoy.

Ok Hairy :D

Thank you Hairy.

I will be happy when the US Navy finally gives him up ;)

I think I'll go buy a lottery ticket, we agree 100% on something.

The poster has demonstrated insight, courage and humility. These are outstanding qualities in a 19 year old aspiring youth. The Navy will do well by acquiring future leaders with these qualities. Unfortunately not everyone learns these lessons in life.:salute:
