Ummm, not sure if this is something you have tried, or are even willing to try, but if you view the site with FireFox, it has a spell check installed in the browser itself.

Or for us Internet Explorer users, if you go to iespell.com, there's a spell check add-in you can install that uses the same library as the other Microsoft products for spell check.

There is no add-on to use. A spell check is encoded into the FireFox web browser, you do not have to add anything else to it.
Now, if you are saying you cant add any additional software to your computer, then that is an entirely different issue.
Its just a be clash issue really.....codes used here for access by some ISP's to the internet don't like firefox. When I am on this computer I have firefox, which had to be modded for the system I use. The old computer I can't use the software whats so ever.

Kiwi, I miss the spell check too, but if there is a silver lining in not having it, it's because I've learned new words while searching the internet dictionary. I back-pedal to my favorites list where the dictionary is posted.
Easy Sister,
Reddog...
ps. How, I would love to float a trout fly on one of your rivers.
What site do you use reddog?
I never been into trout fishing. Down in Tasmaina is the best for that. Beautiful rainbow trout. :D
They are very yummy ;)
Heres the deal you catch them I will cook them :satisfied:

I miss the spell check, too; along with all the old posts and saved PM's. On the upside, it's good to know that the spell check is MIA instead of me just being too blind to find it or too dumb to figure out what part of my profile I don't have configured properly.

For users who can't install FireFox or another addon, you might type your replies in MS Word first - then copy and paste that into the reply box when you're satisfied with what you've written.
It's a bit of a hassle, I know (have had to do it before), but it works.

TO ALL MEMBERS!
There is already a "SpellCheck" function installed in the Forum Software. If you will look on the right upper portion of your "Reply to Thread" window (the area you type in), directly above the "Smilies", you will see an "ABC" with a Check Mark under it. Simply click on the "ABC", that IS the Internet Explorer SpellCheck.

That is only true if you use Internet Explorer.
If you are using Firefox, there is a built in spell checker that runs as you type your reply. While it will not correct your miss typed word, it will highlight it and allow you to fix your mistake BEFORE you post it.

There is an add-on for Internet Explorer 7 that I've been using for a while. There are some neat features added, including spell check. It also adds "quickstrokes," or as they call them, "mouse gestures," which enable you to perform routine commands (like go back) by making a shape with your mouse.
You can get it from: www.ie7pro.com

I don't know. The pc I was on at the time doesn't allow me to download and I haven't tried to get it thru the firewall on this one yet.

Yes, it's perfectly safe. Since my OS is older, I didn't remember that you had to download the update. Another option is to use Microsoft Word, which has it's own "spellcheck", and then simply C&P it onto the Forum.

That is what I was doing but for some reason Microsoft Word doesn't work on my computer very well.

Just use Firefox. It's awesome and has the spell-check built right in, works like a charm.

I guess I'm old school...I just pull the dictionary off the shelf when I don't know how to spell a word. That thing called a "Thesaurus" (no, it's not a dinosaur) gets used sometimes, too.

Little boy, if you make it past my yellow footprints, one of the first things you are going to learn with that attitude is just how much fun being a Drill Instructor's 'special project' can be. That casual dismissal of attention to detail on your part will get good Marines killed. Take the time now to learn to do it right, because if they do let you into my Marine Corps, you're sure as hell not going to get the time to do it over.

Drill, I don't mean to be critical, but this kind of claim doesn't exactly hold up when you're on the top of the list for the highest number of posts. Just something to think about. Remember, you don't need quantity to have quality.

You don't that is a great point. What I am saying is that with Work,School,Workingout, and Random things I have to do, there is no time to upload Microsoft word onto my computer. I did find a way to use spellcheck on Microsoft Works though. Problem fixed!!!!:D
This is the problem with society today all too busy with the rat race, rather than sitting back and watching the rats race by. People ask what is the problem with kids today - rather they should ask what is the problem with the parents of the kids today. Answer - they are too busy.
We have made life so busy we just don't have time to live it anymore!
I am just going to shut up , because I must be friggin blind and can't see jack :o
So if I make a mistake in spelling its down to me accent :p

Not to worry, you are aspiring to enter a profession that regardless of service branch will squeeze the fat out of your schedule and will allow you to repeat the work until you eventually get it right or get out.

Not only that, but also the fact that spellcheck doesn't cover capitalization, usage, grammar, or punctuation. Correct spelling is only one part of literacy.

Actually, Tim, some versions (lumped under the category of a trademarked utility) do. The version included in MS Word does include automatic capitalization, grammar and punctuation - as options. It isn't perfect, of course, that's why many of us keep a dictionary and thesaurus handy, but the bottom line is still that the individual is responsible for the literacy of his posts, and his literacy is judged by how his posts 'read'.

I guess I have an outdated version of Word...thanks for the correction. I think we can all agree that no computer program should replace an informed intellect and a keen knowledge of the English language.
Can we just leave the thread alone now ;) Lockie Lockie :D
