I had to use the link because the video wouldn't show up here for some reason.

That's a segment of the movie "Transformers." Entertaining movie. Not an actual commercial.

Oh I know, but that doesn't mean it can't be used to recruit. Some of the best truths are found in fiction.

I wouldn't use a "tactical loss" as a recruiting tool. Think about it:
1.) They lost the entire base with gross loss of life.
2.) There were 5 survivors...of how many at the base?
3.) They did not kill the attacker
4.) They could not identify the attacker, leaving themselves (and the rest of the world) open to further attack
5.) Only the SF guys were organized...everyone else ran around willy-nilly, adding to the loss of life
Now, some things were done correctly:
1.) The SF guys were organized and fought back in a co-ordinated effort
2.) The SF guys got CAS called in
3.) The pilots placed ordnance on target
4.) The pilots caused the attacker to conduct a tactical withdrawal
All-in-all, in my opinion, not a very good recruiting tool. Pretty decent sci-fi, but poor recruiting.
The best hollyweird flik that actually boosted recruiting was Top Gun. In the 1980's that movie made the military "cool," and recruiting went through the roof....everybody wanted keys to an F-14!

You have a point, Ping, with the Transformers video. Top Gun on the other hand...who doesn't want a partner named Goose?

May be a good way to recruit, I don't know. I like Johnny Cash covering a Tom Petty song more than I like 3 Doors Down and Kid Rock. But, that's just my tastes in music.

I found this video:
3 Doors Down
That 3 Doors Down song ain't half bad; but then again, I think 3 Doors Down is pretty awesome!

That was pretty slick. Heck, almost made me want to join the Army!

Three Doors Down? Wasn't that a Dolly Parton song? No, that was Two Doors Down - she can't walk quite as far with those little feet (things don't grow too well in the shade).
O.O.O.

Ah, Hairy, you old coot!
Ya know, I've always wanted to ski Dolly's peaks and valleys. Trouble is, I don't think the old lift runs that far up the mountain.
Just wanted to let you know I'm still hanging around. It got to the point that I had a helluva time getting on the old site. I kept getting timed out, something that I've grown accustomed to over the years. Funny thing is that another site I often visited used the exact same software and I had no problem. Go figure.
I thought I ought to get back in touch because I don't think we ever had our duel with shotguns at three paces. Hmmmm. Or did we have that duel??? Is it possible it did take place and we both missed???? Is it possible that you won and I can't remember????
Jeeze, I hate it when this happens!!!

Actually, it was shotguns at two paces or bullwhips at one, and we decided to call it a draw due to the prohibitive cost of transportation to a neutral site.
I think you've noticed that the problem was, indeed, a combination of server and software, both of which Grunt has attempted to address in one fell swoop. So far, it seems to be working. Oh, and welcome back.
