Im 17 and a junior in highschool and i am really considering earning that title.
I have a couple questions though
*My parents arent quite sure about the whole military thing and i try to really explain it to them but every time they seem to just try and ignore the subject. how can i talk to them about it?
*Will i be able to complete 4years of college schooling while in the Marines, as in is there really good enough schooling benifits and time to be able to do that?
*And how can i choose a job that that will best suite me and keep me financially supported if i have a family. (im not looking to be ritch or anything or i obviosly wouldnt be looking into the Marines.) Im looking for a job that i can take the skills from after the marines and put them to use in the civilian world. I like mechanical stuff, i can weld very well and and i like working on cars and stuff like that but at the same time im very good with a weapon i have noticed im very skilled at shooting and i love any type of martial arts.
So if theres any jobs yall know of that mix a little bit of all that in, i think i would be happy.

This is totally going to sound like a cop-out but it's not.
A recruiter can answer most of those questions best. Try looking at the Marine Corps website for more information. I dont consider myself an expert on the Marine Corps so most of what I say is general for all branches of the military.

I think it's important not to burn any bridges with your family over enlistment. Be honest and up front. Your parents may be thinking if they ignore you that you'll give up. Maybe even getting them to meet with you and a recruiter would help ease any doubts they have about the military.

As far as I know the USMC provides 100% tuition assistance to active duty marines. In addition - if you don't want to do school while you are in, you can serve 3 or 4 years first and then (using the new post 9/11 GI bill) get free tuition + a housing stipend and books to go to school full time.

The Marine Corps has a lot of technical jobs that range from working on aircraft to ground vehicles and high tech stuff. If you have a family, they will provide you with housing, medical insurance for wife and kids, and a regular paycheck. You wont be rich, but they'll keep you from living on the street.

YOu can't enlist until June 1st after your junior year. Make sure you pass your states graduation test (if it has any). Everything else you need to know your recruiter will tell you, if he doesn't request another one from the NCOIC or from the OIC if the Gunny (or Staff Sergeant) won't give you one. My father had to sign the paper for me to enlist (I haven't seen him in years, my parents have been divorced 9 years and he has never paid child support) and he wouldn't so my recruiter drove all the way to his apartment (2 hours away) and talked to him about how the Marine Corps could help me, needless to say he didn't sign them and my family had to threaten him (my mom would tell the family court judge that he hadn't paid child support since there divorce and giving me a restraining order against him) needless to say he signed them. I haven't seen him since.

Jerk isn't the word I had in mind.... but yeah it was unnecessary but it's life. He is supposed to show up at our x-mas party on Thursday night, so lets just see how that goes.

Get whatever the Recruiter says in writing. Never hurts to be sure.
