I will start with mine.

I enjoy collecting Luftwaffe uniforms and insignia. I have written a few articles for a related periodical, the first of which should be published shortly. Other than that, I enjoy working out and spending time with the family. I am a boy at heart and never outgrew video games. Occasionally, I am allowed to enjoy time on the Play Station 3 my wife bought me last Christmas.

Lets hear about what you all like to do to kick back.

Well let's see...

I love to ride my motorcycle, football, boxing, writing, reading, listening to music, hunt and fish. Most of all, I like spending time with my family.

Other than time with my family (which always comes first), I enjoy my trigger time. I get out to the range as much as possible...just something stress relieving about sending 7.62 death at paper targets! I participate in IPSC matches when I get the chance.

p.s. Mtnsldr's post reminded me....I need to put a rifle rack in my Wrangler.....

Family, reading and my reloading bench. Still trying to put five rounds in a single hole at 200yds. Archery and the season opens next Saturday. I'll be looking for my 40th kill with a bow. Football, doesn't keep me indoors on gorgeous Fall days, that's why God invented the recorder and the very first 'after market' item to go on my FX4 is a gunrack...

Speaking of guns, I just purchased a Remington 870 Waterfowl Model. Went hunting a few days ago, no luck yet. I'm a mobile no-fly zone.

While I lived in Idaho, I lived for hunting, reloading and the great outdoors. Now I am in Denmark, its just not the same when you have had the very best. My interests now lay with my coal forge. I enjoy getting out and burning some metal, pounding some iron into different shapes.

I am also working on building a power hammer so I don't have to pound so hard. Interests have changed, but one thing - you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy!!! January I am planning a trip CONUS, will take some time to go dog hunting!!! Got a .223 and a 25-06 which are just begging to be triggered!!

I prefer the 30-06 compared to the .270 when hunting bigger game. I've also had hunting experience with a Ruger M77 ranging from smaller calibers up to the .458 caliber.

My hobby recently became my undergraduate philosophy thesis for my B.A. degree. Tons of reading and lots of writing, but I'm interested in the subject so it's more like a treasure hunt than an annoyance.

Does the Australian forces take US transfers?

Kiwi
09-29-2008, 02:50 AM
There is a few US military bases here in Australia. :lookaround:

Yes they do transfer personnel as apart of their allied agreement. My memory is bad, but Australia and US forces have been joined for 150 years or so.

Not that hard to transfer. ;)

A little harder in New Zealand, because of the incident with US Marines and the female population in the 1960's. Hence 1/3rd of Kiwis are called Chuck, Billy Ray, Bob and Mary Joe.

If Commander Brumby can transfer to the U.S. Navy JAG Corps, you can do it too! :p

Most of my hobbies are military related. I collect insignia and soft head gear. All primarily from the U.S. services but I do like the Brit, Canuck, Aussi and Kiwi stuff too. Have dabbled in collecting beer steins, toy soldiers and a few other things. A lifelong hobby has always been aviation history and I'm into War Between the States and Indian Wars history via reenacting and living history.
So many neat hobbies, so little time (and money).:D

My hobbies would have to be camping, four-wheeling, paintball, console and PC games, reading, keeping up on my drilling, and collecting military items (insignias and clothing).

Hmmm...I have six kids...oh yeah I have a hobby alright! ;)

The kids and I love camping, canoeing, bicycling, gardening, softball...just about anything outdoors! We watch or listen to our Cleveland and Ohio State teams, win or lose we're die hard fans. The same applies for NASCAR. The kids and I do woodworking and my oldest and I dabble in electronics. I just started collecting model trains again, use to be something Dad and I did together when I was growing up. I love working under the hood when time or necessity allows. Meeting folks has become different, educating and a fun hobby!

Just a few, we like to keep busy around here!

Ballistic therapy, American history (once military, now primarily early political), writing, reading, good whiskey, bad women, NY Times Sunday crosswords (in ink), driving cross-country, lecturing, debating...and did I mention 1911s and women?

I have a 1911 coming in... it was my great grandfather's. I was told he carried it while assigned to the Ambulance Corps in WW1. I can hardly wait to see it.

Sorry for wandering off topic

1. I LOVE sportbike riding (just stock bikes, nothing with nos boosters)
2. I LOVE stangs (preferably vintage, anything after '92 just doesn't interest me unless it is tubed, tubbed, and turbo'd.) Working on it with a 6-pack of beer in the garage on a Saturday is my idea of hot date, LOL
3. Oh, and I know you are all going to laugh at me, but I enjoy Harry Potter books. I have said it, I am out of the closet, there is no going back. I read all of the Chronicles of Narnia books before I turned 10 years old. I guess I am a Sci-Fi freak like that.:lookaround:

O.O.O.

Is it possible to be interested in a military forum and not have military related hobbies? Well, it is for me, I guess.

Gardening is one of my interests, especially when I am successful in growing varieties that all the experts claim won't grow in my climate. I have an extensive flower bed, complete with a G scale train running through it, and quite a few veggies. I especially enjoy heirloom tomatoes and melons.

Photography also adds a lot of enjoyment to my life. I try to make it to Europe at least once a year to capture the sights. My last trip was to Prague and the surrounding area this past May. I came back with 1200 shots. Lots of fun for me.

Finally, although I spend quite a bit of time on the computer, most of it isn't online. I sift through garage sales and auctions for old vinyl that is hard to come by, bring them home then clean them up and remaster them for my music collection - currently standing at 18,493 tracks stored on a dedicated hard drive. I almost always have some form of music going when I am around the house.

You gotta keep active, you know.

I am more of a Dune fan myself. I prefer sci-fi to the fantasy type worlds of CoN or lOtR.

Other than that...I hash (currently with OH3 in okinawa). I also drink vast quantities of beer( I prefer German or Belguim beer when I am forced to be formal. I prefer Good ole American when I want to have fun!). In addition to those admirable qualities, I am trying to start the first "Kat Smith from naval update on AFN is really hot" club. So far I am the only one. But I have a feeling that there are others out there..There always is...

I am actually friends with another hot AFN broadcaster whose name I will leave out of this. Kat is one of her closest friends. I told her the next time her and Kat go out drinking, she needs to make out with her and send me some photos. So far all I have gotten is some links to them goofing off in the office on youtube. But I have faith in my friend and I am sure she will deliver the 'goods' someday. All I have to do is keep reminding her....at least once in every email i send her!!

I enjoy watching World Wrestling Entertainment and Total Nonstop Action, Ultimate Fighting Championship and World Extreme Cagefighting. Family Guy, Time Warp, House, and an occasional episode of Star Trek as well. Any other time, the television is set to FoxNews.

I know that WWE and TNA are choreographed, and that 90% of what is shown is not realistic. But, I can tell you that having ignored the "don't try this at home" disclaimers, and worked with a few wrestlers, even the small "bumps" that the men and women take, on the schedules they work, is deserving of my respect. Plus, grew up watching it. My great-grandfather passed when I was just over a year old, and when I learned that he was one of the "it's all real, and God himself can't change my mind on it" type of wresting fans, I was sunk.

UFC and WEC are awesome, plain and simple. My unit's armory is about five minutes from Athens, so I keep hoping that I will get the opportunity to meet current Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin. I had almost completed my black belt in Choi Kwang Do (a version of Tae Kwang Do), and one of my goals is to get into better shape, finish my black belt, and begin studying other forms of martial arts.

Family Guy, as bull**** left biased as it is, still is amusing. Time Warp amazes me. And House... well, it's House. Star Trek is something that I grew up with via my dad. I'm not a "trekie" by any means, but my dad sure is.

I also love old movies. Anything with John Wayne is awesome.

And, of course, I love spending time with my wife and son.

I know the above makes it seem like my life revolves around tv, but it doesn't really. Most of my time is spent either at odd jobs, or playing house husband until I can get more secure employment. I'm in the process of starting online classes with Ashford University, and still studying for now brigade level Soldier of the Year.

I'm a simple type:

I like grooming the horses, taking care of the dogs, and running the ranch.

Bird hunting first, deer and elk hunting second and feral hog assassinating every moment I can get one in my sights.

I also do gunfight re-enactments at a local town and have been asked to join an 8 pound cannon crew for a local historical fort.

I fly airplanes for one. Something about just sitting in the left seat and hearing nothing but the engine, the radios, and the sound of rushing air relaxes me.

With me; I like to read. I love playing golf. Can't get enough of it.

I also love to go out on the water. Since a wee one I have always loved taking the boat out. Something about the water is so pleasant.

That is art, SGM. Your post brought back memories of my Dad who had a small forge. When I was a young boy he would let me crank the bellows, that made the coal glow cherry red. He sharpened and hardened mining tools for some extra funds. Still remember the taste of those spuds we sometimes cooked on that forge.

I do most of my serious coal forging in the winter - no need for heat when I am working!! It is a great hobby. Have had some ask if I would sell some, but it is not the same. This is a hobby I enjoy, doing thing on commission or to sell, for me just wouldn't be the same.

When I start a knife, I never know how it will turn out. Even after I make the blade, I will drive around with it for some time before I figure out what type of handle I will do or how it will look when I'm done.

Also just a side note - today I am headed over the pond for the Great PX. Haven't seen my brother and family for about 5 yrs, so about time. Will be back around the 29th of Jan.

Welllll. Photography. Painting southwest and native american scenes. Researching rock 'n roll history. I try to make the Commerative Air Force meetings here in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We have a active P-51 Mustang....flown by a retired general. We are currently restoring a military version of the Piper Cub. Museum isn't too bad either. Part time DJ. If and when it finally warms up to over 40 degrees here....I usually try to get out and challenge myself on some of the cities hills while I jog.....they didn't name it Council BLUFFS for nothing.....for a city in the mid-west....we actually have some serious hills. When I tire of running....the bike comes out! Playing baseball with my nephews....etc.
