Hi, I was wondering if the new ABU's were authorized for wear in AFJROTC in place of BDU's.
In my unit BDUs were optional, but they have been removed from clothing sales at our local Air Force base. Without military surplus stores for a good 20+ miles out, many cadets dont have the time to visit them. I have tried emailing numerous people, and have searched high and low for an answer. So the final question is; Are ABU's authorized for wear in AFJROTC? If yes, could someone point me to something that could prove it?

First of all welcome to the forum. I'd say the best person you can ask is your own JROTC SI. That is of course if you can contact them..

With the BDU being phased out, and the ABU replacing it, all AFJROTC units will follow suit. Some units have already ousted the BDU, the official recall of them and the official transfer to the ABU should be around the end of 2010 or 2011. I haven't seen any official memorandums on it yet, but as soon as school starts up, I'll see what I can dig up.

As noted by TruBlu, the uniform switchover will be total and complete from 2011 onward. All AF personell and affiliated programs will be required to use the ABU from this time in replacement of the old BDUs.
This includes all AF Active duty, AF Reserve, and AF Cadet leadership programs. I belive even CAP will be making the switch in 2012 when the uniforms are more readily availible but i cannot confirm that.
Officially, the Senior ROTC program should be switched over by this Spring because Maxwell 2010 is to be conducted in all ABUs. JROTC programs may have to wait to get thiers at the 2011 deadline but eventually yes it will effect the JROTC programs.

I was wondering the same thing. Our unit hasn't had BDU's in years, but we haven't exactly replaced them, either. So, thanks for the answers, guys!
