How does your unit determine who is the Outstanding Flight? Previously for me, there's been no set areas where the Flight is judged on. It's always been more like the 'Most Motivated Flight' that wins the award. This year though, every Flight has to meet certain requirements:

Number of Outstanding Cadet Board winners
Overall attendance
Overall participation in activities
Uniform Inspection Grades
Performance during Flight Challenges
Academic Performance
Completion of Flight duties

At our unit, we have two Flight Competitions during the year. One in the 1st Semester, one in the 2nd. The Flight Competition goes over basically everything we do in AFJROTC. We do Cadet Knowledge, PT, Drill, Inspection, Jodie Competition, and Attendance at the Competition itself, seeing as how it is Mandatory.

Unlike Distinguished unit, the outstanding flight award is designated by the unit commanders. You have whatever the commander decides makes it the best flight.

Distinguished unit however, you have to set your yearly goals, such as cadet enrollment, cadet passing rate, graduation rate, and retainment goals. If you meed those goals, the entire unit gets Distinguished unit.

In my unit we determine what flight gets best flight by determining what semester class has best all around academics, behavior, and attitude they have towards the unit. Then in the second semester the year long classes are then eligible for best flight as well as semester classes.

Other than that, no set agenda in our unit eh? But we are trying to change that. Of course you wear like 2 or 3 of those. I sit with none...

Cheer up TruBlu, your day will come. And just so you two know we do have more standards than motivation. Basic standards include (but are not limited to): attendance, academics(both in JROTC and in the rest of your classes), PT participation/grades, participation in unit functions, overall attitude, and of coure... SASI discretion.

just thought you two should know.

Understood, but are they followed by the people that should follow them? And is that current system entirely fair?

It is to my belief that a system not followed is not a system at all.

Well who do you mean by "the people that should follow them?"

Our past Group and now newly created Squadron Commander. I don't think the "system" that we have currently is efficient, and while there is a "system," there isn't a procedure. They, and by they I mean those that created our unit some time ago, created a "system" to judge, but not really how we go about it.

That brings up one of the biggest problems I see with any unit, there are "regulations" that determine what "happens," but not really how to make/have it happen. Agree?

See that's the main problem, none of the any of the "systems" we have in place are effective
