My unit has this thing called an Outstanding Cadet Board that we do once every month. It's run by the First Sergeant, both Squadron Commanders, and the Group Commander and is designed to weed out those Cadets from each Flight which deserve special recognition for being...well...outstanding. Each Flight has to send one Cadet Airman, NCO, and Officer to compete. I can't go this time because I'm a Flight Commander and can't nominate myself and because I've won our OC board in the Airman, NCO, and Officer categories, but nonetheless it's still something to look forward to. Here's what the Cadets are judged on:

Basic Stationary Drill
AS-1,2,3, or 4 Knowledge
General Military Knowledge
Wear of the Uniform
Chain of Command Knowledge
Overall Presentation and Performance
How well each Cadet handles the pressure

Do you of your units do this? I think it's a great idea. It's something Cadets can strive to be nominated for and something Cadets can use to test their skills and compete against each other.

I think that is an awsome thing for a unit. My cadets will have something to compete for and mabey they will stop having their lazy spells. What type of special recognition does the cadet of the month get?

Mainly, they get bragging rights. But like I said, if they win that's an additional point awarded to their Flight for the Outstanding Flight. For me though, since I won three out three OC boards in each category, I got my name put on the Outstanding Cadet Plaque that hangs in our JROTC room.
