So, I took the ASVAB today... expect my scores back next week, so, I'll post those here as well...
Anyways, the ASVAB (to me at least) was super easy, save for the Automotive Section. What did some of you guys think about the ASVAB (if you've taken it), and, what have you recieved on it?

I get to take the ASVAB this year and am pretty excited about it. And there is an Automotive section? What are all the sections?

Haha~
Gee, the good ol' ASVAB. Let's see, a few years back. I hated the darn Automotive section along with the Geometry with the math, and lastly the weird little symbol thing's. I don't test take well, not to mention it took like five hours. Started it at 6pm, was out by 11pm. My Scores came back a few weeks after, I passed, and qualified for all the extra moo-laa. My Line Scores were better then my overall, with my overall being in the high sixties. (I think 69?) which is pretty good considering that I had a migraine headache during the test. Not a good thing to have during the ASVAB.
Defiantly let us know the outcome of your test, I was wondering how you did, because you told me that you had the test today. How are those unit issues?

talk to your local recruiter he/she can administer an ASVAB test, anytime you're ready to take one(for free).

Many schools have a date where they will offer the ASVAB to the military's prosepctive recruit group (the juniors and seniors). Get with your Guidance Counselor to get this info. Or speak to a recruiter and see what they can do, I know back home the recruiters tested prospects at least twice a month with their own facility and staff.

Cadet,
This is a Military PLACEMENT Exam! It tries and finds your potential and what your possible best career path might be. In 5 years it will mean little or it could mean a lot (if you need to Cross-Train). Why would you place someone in the Motor Pool if their Test lead you to believe that they are better suited to be a UAV Sensor Operator?
The only thing I will say is try to excel in the ASVAB so it won't limit you to your career choices. Take some of the Pre-Tests that the Recruiters can give you or look for them on-line so that you get comfortable with the style and type of questions they ask. That is the best thing you can do.
Also remember that you can RE-TEST and if your scores are marginal, it is BEST for you to do so!

Anyway... back to the ASVAB --
If you've taken three years of middle school math and language arts, you should have NO problem with the WK, PC, AR, and MK sections.

I guess different people view sections differently. I have no experience with an automobile besides plugging the key in, turning it, putting it into drive, and driving off into the sunset. Other people are gear monkeys like my friend, and can make a car from scratch.

I don't have much to add to this topice besides I passed the Asvab. I got right above the score to qualify for MARSOC(0321). The mechanichal part was the hardest to me.

Correction...
There is no pass or fail on the ASVAB. It is a placement exam as stated before. It qualifies you for certain MOS/AFSC's or excludes you from those. It is not pass or fail, not at all and to assume so show how short sighted some people can be when it comes to things in the Military.

It's funny I was so convinced I was going to have such a low score on the ASVAB that I would have to be a cook or something like that while I was taking it. After the test though I found out that I got a 96!

Holy crap dude! That's a great score! (ASVAB scores aren't line scores, they're actually percentiles, meaning that ArmedDrillAddict scored better than 96% of test takers).
For some reason, I think I bombed...

Nice! Special Forces would be so cool in my opinion, that's my career goal in the Army, but the officer opportunities are very limited. I think I'll be taking the ASVAB this November. Hopefully I'll score well. I'll post mine when I take and receive my scores.

I know. I mainly wanted to know if I had the aptitude for it, and well, I found out today. Also, I don't want to go in with the MOS of Special Operations, I want to go in as Infantry (Marine Corps Rifleman) and work my way up.

For those who are wanting to eventually become Officers, ensure your GT score is 110 or better. If it isn't, you will have to retake the ASVAB before you go to OCS or enter ROTC, there are no waivers.

Does the Army have an officer entrance test? The Air Force has the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test which must be taken in order to apply for any officer positions and I was curious as to whether or not the other services had similar examinations.

No, the Army does not have one. To enter OCS or ROTC they use your scores from the ASVAB. Once you are in your pre-commissioning program you get tested all the time and evaluated on your leadership, to include an intense field exercise at Ft. Lewis, WA.

Again, and again...LISTEN Cadets..
The ASVAB is a PLACEMENT EXAM designed to help the Military decide what MOS/AFSC you might have the best aptitude for.
Repeat after me and continue to repeat this. "The Needs of the Military exceed My Needs." Ask any Military person here if that phrase is true or false.

I took my test my junior year, and because of that I thought I wasn't going to get half as high as I did. And compared to all the posted scores, mine is the lowest. But I'm glad I qualified for the job I wanted.
By the way I scored 49

The ASVAB we take as JROTC students is easier than the one you take at MEPs. I scored a 68 on the one in my unit and a 32 on the one at MEPs.

It's not just JROTC that gets it. When it's offered in high school, it's a different version of the test. I can't remember the specifics of it at the moment, though.

EDIT:
FOUND IT!!!
The CAT-ASVAB (Computerized) has ten sections (Auto and Shop is split).
The MET-ASVAB (MEPS) has nine sections (Assembling Objects).
And the Student ASVAB (High School) has eight.

Revive a dead thread here lol. I finally took the ASVAB through the USAF recruiting office. Had to go over to an Active National Guard facility for it and took 'the real deal' ASVAB. But my recruiter called me this morning to inform me that I scored a 93 of 99 on it. Don't know the section breakdowns of it yet, but I'm really not all that worried about it, I'll find those out tomorrow when I go in to set up some more dates. I may post up those if I get them.

Was it relatively easy?
Extensive question, but what math/science classes have you taken in HS and how well did you do on them? I want to take the ASVAB, but just because...idk why, I just want to. I'm going to Commission lol... I'm just interested in how stupid I might be.

It's pretty easy.
I've taken all the standard classes: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry; I've gotten an A in all, at CP level though. Commission or not, yo will take the ASVAB, and if possible, take it through your school, it is both shorter and easier than the military issued ASVAB. But either way, it is not a hard test so to speak, it's an aptitude test to judge where you 'belong' if you are to join.

Seriously, everything on the ASVAB is taught in Middle School. Well, maybe not Auto, Shop, and Electronics (depends on what your school offers) but the main sections... yeah... they are that easy.

what is the "school version"?
My school does not offer this.
Anyways, I took Honors Bio, Chem, and Physics. Bio I got a 94 in, and Chem a 84 and Physics a 83 (rofl I sucked at these last two classes). Alg II I got a 94ish in. I sucked at Geo and got a 86. Alg I I blew off. Precal should not be too hard, and the only other academic class I am taking next year is AP US History, easy. World History, I slept through that and I got a 96 lol. ROTC, 96 and 99--easy.
I am not dumb by far, but I possess very little if any motivation if I cannot see tangible results right in front of my face. It sucks, and I will be much better at this stuff next year.

Meh I can probably get as high as I want. It's just a matter of me caring about the test. I always do extremely well on standardized testing even though I may not have an absolutely amazing grade in the class of the subject area, so I supposed the ASVAB is no different.

School version is one that is issued when you are a Junior or Senior, most schools it is optional. It still goes to the same people, it's just a different version of the test, it just happens to be geared more towards current high school students and is slightly shorter and a little easier.

0-69 is a "F;" 70-76 is a "D;" 77-84 is a "C;" 85-92 is a "B;" 93-100 is an "A." Part of our low graduation rates and substandard instruction is due to this 'grading scale.'

Yep those percentages and letter grades are correct.
I do wonder if when a high school reports grades to colleges they report the letter grades, the percentages, or both. To me, a percentage is a percentage. There shouldn't even be stupid "letter grades", or if there are, there needs to be a nationally-set policy. It simply is not fair when one state has the cut-off for an "F" at 69, and then a neighboring state (point-in-case: Georgia) has it at 65.
Typically colleges look at rank; if not, they admissions people should know what states use the different scales. Your state using that scale shouldn't really disadvantage you.
