Lets get a kinda kick back and just talk thread going. Music is always a good topic for conversation and can lead you to some unexpected findings. I've been introduced to many a band and artist through threads like these and figured that we should have one hanging around, if not only for fact that every forum in the world has one.

I'll start it off saying that I listen to a variety of things. Rock is by far the largest genre of music that I listen to, and I have to generalize it because I listen to almost every type (excluding the extremes being very very soft and slow, and very very obnoxious and dark). I also like techno and a very very very limited amount of rap (and when I say limited I mean the Gorillaz, Beck, Beastie Boys, and random stuff like that; most definitely no 50 Cent, 'Lil anything, etc in my play list).

Play list for today: Alkaline Trio, Basshunter, Blink 182, Daft Punk, Flobots, Foo Fighters, and a little Tantric to round it out.

Currently I am listening to Metallica: Death Magnetic.

That's their new CD right? I've heard most of it and its pretty sweet. At first, I was like NO, I don't want to hear it, I don't want to like it. But then I was like, "Oh, this is pretty good, Metallica stayed true to their name..." Yeah it was a pleasant surprise.

Yes, they seem to have gone back to the Justice period in the new album.

I have always been a fan of Christian Metal/Hardcore, DeadPoetic ranks highest on my list, with Underoath(who i forgot to list) trailing in second. As far as classics go, Mettalica and Stryper(who i also didnt list) owns. I dont care what anybody's opinion on the matter is, Stryper was one of the best things to ever come out of the 80's. Go Christian Metal 777!

Man that stings, calling Metallica a classic. They just released a CD lol, they aren't done yet. But I guess so did ACDC, which I did not like that one. And Ozzy also, but I though that was pretty good, but nothing can compare to some good old Black Sabbath when it comes to Ozzy. But yeah, Metallica isn't done yet.

I think that calling Metallica a "classic" is an honor to the band, even though they aren't done yet. They have influenced almost every heavy metal band since 1990, they are one of the 4 biggest thrash metal groups of all time, and they are still going strong. That's saying something!

Well, if you wanna get technical the Metal Genre did not really spark til the 80's decade, and Metallica had its start in '83 i believe (dont qoute me on that) when the wave of Hair metal, black metal, and White(Christian) Metal bands came through.

I don't think they should be called a classic unit they are done. But you are right, they have influenced so many modern bands, and they changed the face of metal. I'm not trying to take anything away from them, but when I hear classic, I think Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, The Who, Spinal Tap (not really Spinal Tap lol!). Eventually I will see Metallica in the same light, along with other bands, but for me at least, its a little preemptive.

I see your point there, but still think that as a defining band in the genre with over 90 million records, 13 platinum audio albums, 7 platinum video albums, and a feature length movie they deserve to be called a classic band.

Oh, um, Citizen Cope's "Let the Drummer Kick" is a pretty good uplifting song. I also like to listen to just instrumentals when I've had a bad day, because unlike songs with words, you can really have your own meaning for the song, and the way you perceive it can be different each time.

If you need a pick-me-up song on a bad day, I have the perfect one for you.

Soul Bossa Nova - Quincy Jones and his Orchestra

Otherwise known as the Austin Powers movie theme music. You just have to act (and talk) like Austin Powers when you hear this song...cheers me right up!

Favorite genres are pretty much anything except gangster rap. My range of music tastes go from WWII-era Glenn Miller, Dave Brubeck, Nat King Cole and some smooth jazz, to Slipknot, Borialis, Skindred (who I've really come to like lately) and some other types of rock, metal, country, and a tiny bit of non-gangster rap. I even have some African music and a couple Irish Pub Song CD's - I don't drink to them, of course!

Some favorite songs that stand out:

Pressure - Skindred
Take Five - Dave Brubeck
Soul Bossa Nova - Quincy Jones
Fly Me to the Moon - Steve Tyrell
Don't Mean A Thing - Borialis
Solitude - Glenn Miller
Pulse of the Maggots - Slipknot

Bandwidth. Posting the link allows you to run the machine locally through the server it is originally stored on. Embedding it in your post makes Grunts server store it, thus eating up bandwidth and slowing the site down.

This is an educated guess from someone who is untrained, but cursory familiar through running a couple of forums. If I'm all jacked up, let me know.

I like the overdubbing of the guitars, but he sings in falsetto ALL THE TIME! I'd almost consider him not a mucisian, except he actually plays the lead guitar. That is unusual because most frontman whom sing, dont play lead; they usually play rythm

Like I said, I went to see Metallica. It was Kirk's Birthday, so during Seek and Destroy, all the producers and stage hands got up on stage and threw pies on him and sprayed him with silly string. It was pretty funny. Then at the end James had everyone sing Happy Birthday.

We've got a lot more big names coming to Tulsa because of the new BOK Arena so there are some pretty good shows coming up. I want to go see AC/DC, Slipknot, and Nickelback.

I listen to punk rock a lot, but enjoy just about everything else. The last concert I went to was in July, I went to warped tour and got to see one of my favorite bands (Paramore). That concert was epic...in January an army buddy and I are going on a road trip to Tulsa to supposedly see ACDC...that shouuld be fun.

My taste in music tends to lean to the heavy side.
Currently listening to the New Mötley Crüe Saints Of Los Angeles CD
but alternate between that and Disturbed and of course my old school metal
like Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica (Pre load),
Sactuary, Testament and Pantera.
Speaking of Pantera for any of you metal heads who know who they were if you've not already done so you REALLY should check out Vinny Paul's newest
endever called HellYeah which is a superband composed of members from Pantera,Damageplan,Mudvayne and Nothing face.
Really good stuff and of course nice and heavy.

Hey I was wondering, does anybody listen to Wierd Al Yankovic? I think his songs are pretty funny considering that many of them are a rip-off from popular songs at the moment and have a touch of reality in them.

I wouldn't use the term "rip off." He's into parody, that's the genre if you were to categorize it: parody. He has his funny moments, and a few good songs. But I believe he is generally over played. His newest hit "White and Nerdy" was played so excessively that every time I heard it, I wanted to shoot myself. It's a good song, clever to say the least, but everything has it's limits, and for me, Weird Al's limits are pretty short with me.

Oh, and just for fun, play list for tonight: Aqueduct, Band of Horses, Blink-182 (pretty much always in my play list), Incubus, and Paramore.

I agree with you that every song has its limits. I also understand about shooting yourself everytime you hear a certain song. I want to do the same (literaly speaking) every time I hear that blasted Numa Numa song. At first it was ok, but when just about every person was singing or humming it at school I went crazy.

My christmas lights run to music as well. My dad set it up. He took some kit that has all the channels(one channel is one strand of lights) hooked to a big box thing. It comes with a few songs with the lights already set to the music. You can also download more songs and program themself (each light to every single beat) or get them already done. Then you get a radio transmitter(or something like that) and broadcast the songs on the radio to where the people just tune to the correct channel and watch.

The band is a Swedish Power Metal band named Sabaton.

Song:
Primo Victoria - D-Day 1944
Attero Dominatus - Battle of Berlin
Cliffs of Gallipoli - Battle of Gallipoli
Talvisota - Finnish Winter War
Ghost Division - Rommel's Tank Division
Back In Control - Falklands War
Wolfpack - Battle of the Atlantic
Stalingrad - Battle of Stalingrad
Purple Heart - Recipients of the Purple Heart

I highly recommended listening to these. Not only do they sound awesome, but each song is also like a mini history lesson coupled with Modern Music Sound.

I haven't hit this thread in almost a month, wow. Since then, I've been trying to expand my trance collection. One of my newest additions (last Friday I think), is Armin van Buuren's ASOT (A State of Trance) episode 400. I mention this particular episode because it is very unique: a 72-hour broadcast with over 25 hours of live sets in three different countries. It features Armin himself doing three 2-hour long sets, Arnej (one of my favorites), Markus Schulz, Duderstadt, and many more. Get the full 72 hours with all live performances and intermission mixes here (http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4863965/A_State_Of_Trance_400_FULL___Guest_Mixes) (for torrent clients). It's heavy at 6.15 GB, but fully worth it for anyone who has a real appreciation and love for this unique genre of music.

In other news, Blink 182 has finished recording their first new song for the summer tour (and CD), but it has yet to be released. :( It will come in time I suppose...

Just curious, how much do you really know about him, aside from things you've heard? If you've done independent research (i.e. reading about him anywhere), you'll know that the accusations were never proven for whatever reason, and he had a condition that lightened his skin.

That being said, anyone could accuse you of anything. People could believe it as being 100% the truth, or people could believe it as an accusation that isn't proven but has the potential to be true.

SANTA MARIA, California (CNN) -- A stoic Michael Jackson walked out of court acquitted by jurors who said they didn't have enough evidence to convict him of molestation charges that could have sent him to prison for years.

Jackson made no comment -- and didn't even smile -- as he left the Santa Maria courthouse after the verdict Monday, surrounded by his parents and siblings.

He did wave and blow kisses to hundreds of supporters, who screamed, hugged one another and threw confetti when they heard the news -- some of them overcome with tears of joy. (Fans react)

Jackson's brother, Jermaine, told CNN's "Larry King Live" his family was "very, very happy."

"Like we always felt from the very beginning and knew, he was one thousand percent innocent," he said. "It takes one person to tell the truth, but it takes many to concoct a lie."

Jackson was accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy two years ago when they were sleeping alone together in his bed at Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara County. (Verdict list)

The jury acquitted Jackson on 10 counts:

Four counts of committing a lewd act with a child.

One count of attempting to commit a lewd act on a child younger than 14.

One count of conspiracy to commit false imprisonment, extortion and child abduction.

Four counts of providing alcohol to a minor to facilitate child molestation.

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Thomas Sneddon, who sat grim-faced as the court clerk read out the verdicts, later told reporters he would accept the decision.

"In 37 years [as a prosecutor], I've never quarreled with a jury's verdict, and I'm not going to start today," he said.

Asked if he thought the jury had just acquitted a child molester, Sneddon said, "No comment."

Jackson's lead defense attorney, Thomas Mesereau Jr., told reporters on his way out of the courthouse that "justice was done."

"The man's innocent. He always was," Mesereau said.

Jury retrospective
The jury foreman, Paul Rodriguez, said jurors were "very troubled" that Jackson, by his own admission, had overnight sleepovers with children in his bed.

But Rodriguez, a 63-year-old retired high school counselor from Santa Maria, said jurors were instructed by the judge to base their verdicts on the facts of the case, not "our beliefs or our own personal thoughts."

"We would hope ... that he doesn't sleep with children anymore," Rodriguez said on CNN. "He just has to be careful how he conducts himself around children."

At a post-verdict news conference, jurors said that after more than 32 hours of deliberations over seven days, they all agreed prosecutors had simply not proved their case against the pop star beyond a reasonable doubt.

At the news conference, jurors were identified only by their seat number in the courtroom.

"We actually challenged one another in the deliberation room," said Juror No. 1, a 62-year-old man from Santa Maria, later identified as Raymond Hultman. "We challenged the issues, and we came to the decision that pointed to reasonable doubt."

Later, in an interview on "Larry King Live," Hultman said he believes Jackson "probably has molested boys."

"I can't believe that this man could sleep in the same bedroom for 365 straight days and not do something more than just watch television and eat popcorn," he said. "I mean that doesn't make sense to me, but that doesn't make him guilty of the charges that were presented in this case and that's where we had to make our decision."

As they deliberated, jurors kept coming back to the "closetful of evidence" supplied by prosecutors during the 14-week trial, but "it was just not enough," said Juror No. 10, a 45-year-old woman from Solvang, not far from Jackson's Neverland Ranch.

"We expected probably better evidence, something that was a little more convincing. And it just wasn't there," she said.

Rodriguez said jurors did find credible some of the testimony relating to past child molestation allegations against Jackson, which prosecutors were allowed to introduce to try to prove a pattern of behavior.

But he said that testimony wasn't enough to overcome the jury's doubts about the facts in current case.

Juror No. 8, a 42-year-old woman from Lompoc who cried during the reading of the verdict, said the jury's decision was emotional for her because it was "a no-win situation for the [accuser's] family and Michael Jackson."

"But we had to do what we were instructed to do," she said.

During the trial, Jackson's defense team attacked the credibility of Jackson's teenage accuser and his family, particularly the boy's mother.

The jurors, who listened to the mother for more than five days, indicated that they, too, doubted her credibility and were put off by the way she directly addressed jurors and accented her testimony by snapping her fingers.

"I disliked it intensely," said Juror No. 5, a 79-year-old woman from Santa Maria. "I thought, 'Don't snap your fingers at me, lady.' "

Juror No. 10 said "you couldn't help but wonder" whether the mother concocted the charges against Jackson and coached her children to lie, as the defense alleged.

The juror said that as a mother she was also troubled by the fact the accuser's mother allowed her son to sleep alone with Jackson.

"What mother in her right mind would allow that to happen -- just freely volunteer your child to sleep with someone?" she said.

As for the testimony of the boy himself, Rodriguez said jurors were troubled by the fact that the youngster's version of events was inconsistent with testimony offered by other members of his family.

"It was really hard to believe what he was telling us," he said.

Jurors said they also were troubled by the logic of the prosecution's timeline.

Prosecutors said the molestation took place about three weeks after Jackson and his associates allegedly launched a conspiracy against the family to enlist their help in damage control efforts after the boy was shown holding hands with the entertainer in an unflattering television documentary.

Jurors apparently also discounted the cache of sexually explicit material seized from Neverland and presented by prosecutors, who argued the material was used by Jackson to help groom young boys for abuse.

"Those are adult magazines. Anybody can own them," Rodriguez said. "It doesn't prove the charge."

Sneddon defends case
Debra Opri, a Jackson family attorney, said prosecutors made a mistake when "they brought charges against Michael Jackson with the wrong accuser."

Sneddon defended his decision to proceed with the case, saying prosecutors don't have the luxury of picking the victims they represent.

"When a victim comes in and the victim tells you they've been victimized, and you believe that and you believe the evidence supports that, you don't look at their pedigree," Sneddon said. "We did the right thing for the right reasons."

Sneddon said that despite Monday's verdict, he "probably wouldn't" shy away from pursuing new allegations against Jackson if law enforcement had a good case against him.

"We'd review it like any other case," he said.

The jury's verdict was read shortly after 2 p.m. (5 p.m. ET), about 90 minutes after jurors informed Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville that they had reached a decision.

The reading of the verdict was delayed to give Jackson time to drive from Neverland to the courthouse in Santa Maria.

Jackson looked straight ahead and showed little reaction as he listened to the court clerk go through the not guilty verdicts on all 10 counts. (On the Scene)

His mother, Katherine, who attended every day of the trial, started to cry as his siblings LaToya, Tito and Randy held her. His father, Joseph, sat with his hands clasped in front of him.

After Melville told Jackson he was free to go, the entertainer hugged his attorneys before walking out of the courthouse and getting in a black SUV for the return trip to Neverland.

CNN's Ted Rowlands, Rusty Dornin and Dree De Clamecy contributed to this report.

The facts, as they stand, are that he couldn't be found guilty based on the evidence. Who am I to say that without a doubt he is guilty, given that trial? If he did it, at this point it wouldn't make a difference since his career was plagued by this and the 1993 incident to the point that he might as well of been found guilty without a fair trial.

Hahaha :D Well I looked up Matt and Kim and I loved Daylight and silver Tiles was good too, but Daylight was DEF my fav :) As for what i'm listenind to, today I listened Ladytron, Mayday Parade, Bright Eyes, Shiny toy Guns, and The Dead 60s as well as some other random music thrown in there.

My new favorite music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd-pIoTohhE.

Just found Deekline and Wizard, I think they're pretty cool. Check 'em out if you're into the British music scene or want to expand a little.

Man, Its always been weird, lol. Were you a fan of Norwegian, Sweedish, or Scandanavian black metal? I love Norwegian Black Metal, and I like Dark Funeral (Sweedish) but I've never really gotten into any others... I usually just stick to Death Metal, lol.

I'm pretty diverse; I've got everything from All Shall Perish, Between the Buried and Me, and Opeth on here to Buddy Guy and John Jorgenson Quintet

Never really liked Opeth, as Mike switched between his awesome guttural vocals to the half done "clean" vocals.

I generally stick to mainstream music. But I'll listen to almost anything. Classical, Rock, Alternative, Metal (All types), Rap, Country. Really anything except Opera haha. and I'm not a HUGE fan of Indie music

Good Indie is kind of hard to come by. Try We Are Scientists if you want the "best of" in my opinion.

I just listened to them, and i'm not saying they are bad, but they just don't do much for me. They style is to much like the rest of the indie scene. It's not the worst I've heard before.

To each his own. Another group(s) that you could try that are akin to Indy, but classified as Alternative are Jack White's projects (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather). Maybe check them out.

The Dead Weather is brand new, they're first CD has been around for only a few months, if that. You should like them if you like The White Stripes and Raconteurs.

Got me into some really heavy, and not so heavy rock music.

Just listen to anything on Crack the Skye by Mastodon.

In other news, I'm now listening to "Like a Boss" by the Lonely Island.

My apologies for possibly interrupting a good conversation. Has anyone heard of the Voca People? They are easy to find on YouTube. I first heard about the Voca People in my 12th grade English Class on television. My question to people who have heard/heard of The Voca People is this; does anyone think they are real? Myself being a chorus student for four years, I find this hard to believe but I know this has been done before.

What I've been listening to lately: Benny Benassi, Deekline and Wizard, and lots of other house/breakbeat. And for the alternative, The National. Some of my favorites by them:

I love just about any country artist with the exception of Taylor Swift. She doesn't count in my book.
