I pick up the magazine Armchair General (I know, I know...funny name, but it is an excellent magazine)

In the newest issue they looked at some of the Medal of Honor recipients and their stories. On one of the pages they had some interesting trivia about the Medal of Honor.

100,000 is the dollar amount of the Stolen Valor Act fine for falsely claiming to be a Medal of Honor recipient.

3,467 Medals of Honor have been awarded to date.

854 Medals of Honor have been awarded since the beginning of World War II

19 awardees have received TWO Medals of Honor

8 Medals of Honor have been awarded (to date) for post-Vietnam actions.

6 Civil War Soldiers (Andrews Raiders) received the first Medals of Honor in March 1863 (13 otherr Andrews Raiders later received the MOH)

5 double Medal of Honor recipients received both the Army and the Navy medals.

1 U.S. Coast Guardsman received the Medal of Honor (Douglas Munro, Guadalcanal, 1942)

0 Medals of Honor have been awarded non-postumaously for post-1973 actions.

Great post, sir.

A few more tidbits of trivia...

Which two presidents' sons were awarded the CMH?

Which president was awarded the CMH (before he was president)?

What other famous father and son duo were awarded the CMH?

Don't know why this one died, but I think its a good topic.

To the first question, Theodore Roosevelt's son Ted Jr. received the MOH in 1944 for his actions on D-Day. Rutherford B. Hayes son Col. James "Webb" Hayes earned the MOH in 1899 during the Philippine Insurrection.

The only president to earn the MOH prior to being elected that I know of was Theodore Roosevelt, however his medal wasn't awarded until 2001.

Arthur MacArthur and Douglas MacArthur were the first father-son awardees, followed by Theodore Roosevelt and Theodore Jr.

My turn, whose MOH was classified 'Top Secret' until it was actually presented?

The correct answer was Corporal Hiroshi H. Miyamura, whose Medal was approved while he was a POW.
