You Marine wannabes may have heard of this acronym and believe me somebody in the USMC will hit you with this for either stupid giggles or a meritorious promotion board.

Deep down if you think about what it stands for you will be a good Marine and a good guy when you come back to the real world.

Which wannabe knows the acronymn? Purple Heart up for grabs!

Ok, I will admit I had to look it up, but that is pretty cool.

In the Army it is LDRSHIP.

EDIT: Heh...Buffalo beat me to it.

This place is starting to get better I tell ya! It's getting to feel like it's my old comm shed on Camp Foster.

BTW, I don't remember that acronym from when I went through Hollywood or on any of my active time (I was drunk half the time). I heard about though.... When did it come about?

I never heard it from '79 to '83. Matter of fact, I only heard of it in the last year or so, either at the SB or EGA.

I had a "GUIDEBOOK FOR MARINES" when I went through boot and active duty. Are you talking about the Essential Subjects books that came out later?

Yeah, but you're an old bastard...

Ben, we def got it in Boot... I think you're right about the guidebook... this was in '90... Now that I look closer at that GC and your current rank, I'm guessin you're an old ******* like CW as well :D

Went to boot in Dec '81. Got off active duty in Oct 1988. Went into the USMCR in '92 and got out in '99. Went into the Army reserve in April 2001, swapped to the Guard in 2005. Now on active duty.

Yea, I'm old. :D

Hey guys, I don't mind y'all sharing your experiences and offering advice to those that desire to enter the Marine Corps (in fact I encourage it), but please watch your language in the Cadet section.

Thanks.

In '75 we had a Little Red Monster.

I learned that in the early 80s at 1stMarDiv. It's been around for a looong time.

This thread brings up a good point, all of the Marine wannabe's should track down a current copy of the "Guidebook for Marines" and study that. Lots more useful that memorizing the 'General Orders.'

I have my Dad's old "Guidebook for Marines". It has the M1 Garand, Bazooka, and flame thrower in it. I bet some of the illustrations are the same now as was back then.

My Dad got Meritorious Sgt and his junk on the bunk and wall locker were used as examples in the book. He was stationed at MCRD SD.

I'm proud of that guy. :D

I have one from the mid 60's.

It had the M-14 and the M-16 both in it.

How I got it and where it came from I don't know.

We most likly acquired it from the S-1 office for some up coming inspection.

I'll have to look all of that reading material up.

I think it may still be in a foot locker or a 20MM ammo can in my parents basement
