What exactly does this mean and what are the qualifications for the cord?

There are two different cords here and the requirements can vary from school to school, however it is standard that to receive an Honors Cord (which is actually yellow) that you must be in an honors class and be receiving at least a 2.5 in that class. There is also the AP Cord which is golden (it looks like someone braided a golden vine and slung it around their shoulder several times.) In order to receive this than you must be in an Advanced Placement course (college course) and receive at least a 2.5 in that class.

I am not exactly sure what your comment meant in respect to what I said, but I did find this in CCR 145-2, "(1) Shoulder cords will be used to designate participation in extra-curricular activities including but not limited to"..."Honor organizations, such as national and local honor societies - gold (Cable #70157)." This defines the color of the cord, however it doesn't exactly say what you need to do, so I was right in saying that it can vary from school to school, that also explains why my battalion has two separate cords (one for honors and one for advanced placement.)

However, since the regulation is vague as far as defining cords (if you read it correctly, you'll notice that the colors it gives are recommendations), what your school does with them is probably different from what my old school does with them, which is probably different from what Wiiman's school does with them.

I still do not understand exactly what you mean by your post saying that I was wrong. I understand that each school uses the cord's colors differently, I did however mention that in both of my posts. Since the color is in CCR 145-2 than wouldn't that make it the standard regulation?

I never once said you were wrong. In my first post, I stated that what applies to your area may not apply to other areas, and in the second I further stated that same concept and also mentioned that CCR 145-2 does NOT explicitly define which cords are authorized for which activities.

f. Shoulder cords. Shoulder cords may be procured at Government expense (subject to funding availability). Solid, single color, or multi-colored shoulder cords may be designed and authorized to designate a host institution, unit, activity or cadet position. Shoulder cords must be approved by USACC. No more than one cord may be worn on each shoulder as shown in figure 10–16.

(1) Shoulder cords will be used to designate participation in extra-curricular activities including but not limited to -
(a) Color Guard - white (Cable #65005).
(b) Drill activity - red (Cable #65006).
(c) Musical activity - blue (Cable #70147).
(d) Marksmanship activity - tan (Cable #65015).

Nowhere in there does it state that the colors stated MUST be used for the activities listed, and even further states that the SAI can use them elsewhere, basically giving your instructors the OK to use cords as they see fit.

Now I see, thank you for clearing that up. I hadn't read the article all the way through and pretty much stopped right after seeing the cord I was looking for.
