Ever since The Nationals ended I have found that I am really bored. Usually after school all I would do is go to drill practice until 5:30 PM Monday - Friday then go home and do homework and IM my friends. Now I get home at 3:00 PM and do do nothing because all my friends do some sort of sport. Anyone else experiencing this kind of boredom?

I fully sympathize with you:D I'm so used to doing color guards, drill team, and honor guard events, plus the practices, but since I busted up my ribcage and my grades weren't stellar, I can't do any of that anymore. I go home at 3 P.M. everyday, have nothing to do after school, in the morning before school, on the weekends...I don't know what to do with myself. I'm sure I'll survive, though.

Wow, I wish I had instructors that wanted to do 2 and a half hour long practices! And go to nationals, but I guess you've got to win state first eh, or place at that. But, I'm sure you guys won't die lol! I don't know, try finding another club or something to get active in, and expand your social scene a little, if not at least what goes on the 'ol resume you know?

Just keep your cool, listen to the commander, and focus. Have your uniform prepared the night before and get some sleep so you can be alert during the day. If you are nervous, it just means you are ready, and if you aren't don't start thinking that you guys are just going to go out and it be a cakewalk. Its a competition, and every other team wants it just as much as you do. Just do those few things and you should do fine.

The Drill season doesn't stop with Nationals. Aren't there other local competitions you can attend. Some unit hold Dill meets at their school. If you really want to be drill team proactive...start working on new routines with your Drill Team...look for local competitions, or suggest to your SASI to hold a local competition one weekend at your school. The unit would make lots of money considering there is always an entry fee.

Well, just keep your cool. You have been practicing and know the routine(s), my only suggestion is that if you are doing inspection then not to freak out if the person questioning you gets in your face. I swear there were times that our noses where touching. Also don't show emotion, I have seen vids of people crying during inspection, if that happens than huge points will be deducted. Hold it until after you leave the room and fall out.

No, there weren't any more local competitions after Nationals.

Well that's unconditionally retarded...no locals after nationals...hmmm...well you can still like I said practice for next year, and you can always get the unit money by holding a Drill Meet of your own.

I would suggest starting practices with your new freshman and try to make several local competitions near the beginning of the school year. We already have an invitation to a competition in early November.

We do practice during the summer (Unarmed during July and Armed during August.) As for training the freshman during this time, we tried. Only half came. Also we have our drill meet once a year every fall. Practice comes again after we come back from our battalion camping trip in early October (should be fun.) Also we can't go to many competitions this year due to our budget, we barely have enough money for our own comp, 1 local comp, Army Nationals, and The Nationals.

Well, you guys are lucky. My school only goes to two drill meets, and those are only during second semester of the school year. Heck, we don't even go to Western Regionals or Nationals... although the Army is willing to pay for it...
All I have to say is practice, practice, practice...

We don't even do drill after school, we do it in the morning before school because of all the athletes that participate in drill. I have sports year round so i cant say that i am feeling the boredom that you are.

Dude there's something wrong with that. Seriously talk to your instructors and see if there's more that you can do. If not you can always hold your own drill meet at your school. If you need details on how to do that I would be happy to provide. My old unit hold the Red & White Drill meet every year in North Carolina. Makes good money, good for networking, and great for scouting out the competition for next year.

I'm sorry to break this to you but JROTC is going to make you bored(as well as happy, sad excited, and mad). It is a great class that helps you more thatn you would ever think. I didn't get the job I wanted and I worked harder, overtime, over the weekend, I even raised a couple thousand dollars for our unit and I didn't get what I wanted, just because I copy-pasted on a project and got demoted. You're going to bored,pissed-off and just plain mad at JROTC. I hate this but I'm dealing with it because it's like a Relatonship you give and give and they give you nothing(yet so much at the same time). I wanted Battalion Sergant Major, that is not much to ask for when I've done more than the whole staff in two years and I come back form JCLC this summer and I get Company Commander in my unit thats a give away rank, there is no rsponsibility in my position(in my battalion we don't even have COmpany Formation except once every four years, company commanders are for people who have been in the program but haven't stod out to much, that's not me as you can tell). My point is just give up and do your job excel and hope for the best(I hope you get the best). Your going to go through various emotins with JROTC, what you have to do is just suck it up and keep marching. Look to the future and forget the present. I also got real mad with my NAtional Award. I got the Scottish Rite medal which in my unite means F%$^ You. I worked my butt of and I got a piece of crap they couldn't even give me the respect to put it in a case it was give to me in a bag without a ribbon. I just Saluted smiled and walked out. There have been times where I have wanted to take my uniform off and hand it back in it but you know why I don't because every time I feel like this I think about a Eagle,Globe and Anchor, I think of something bigger than me. I'm still mad,I hold a grudge for a long time. Just suck it up and be complacent. JROTC is a relationship if you add love, love, time, and dediction into it it will pay off. Emotons are going through this process to, just hope you don't get mad. Love every minute your in JROTC because life is going to change and get harder when you graduate, It's a freeride now.

I'm still mad,I hold a grudge for a long time. Just suck it up and be complacent.
Okay first off, your spelling stinks. You need to go re-edit this, and edit it quick, because the Senior Members do not like spelling and grammar usage such as this. Secondly, don't EVER EVER Bash the JROTC program.

I'm sorry to break this to you but JROTC doesn't matter. It is a class.
If you're this disgruntled with JROTC, leave. And you're wrong about it being "just a class", it's what you put into it and what you take out of it. If you feel like JROTC doesn't matter, that's your opinion but in the long run it may help you.
I found that out this year, I didn't get the job I wanted and I worked harder, overtime, over the weekend, I even raised a couple thousand dollars for our unit and I didn't get what I wanted, just because I copy-pasted on a project and got demoted.
The way your posts have read to me, it seems like everything is either your way or the highway. Hate to break it to ya, but that's life. And if you just copied on a project, I can understand why you didn't get what you were looking for...you took a shortcut that didn't pay off.
You're going to bored, pissed-off and just plain mad at JROTC. I hate this but I'm dealing with it because it's like a relatonship you give and give and they give you nothing.
Just because you're angry with the program doesn't mean other people will feel the same. The program gives you what you deserve, and the way it sounds, you didn't deserve what you wanted, and now you're bitter and upset.
I wanted Battalion Sergeant Major, that is not much to ask for when I've done more than the whole staff in two years and I come back form JCLC this summer and I get Company Commander. In my unit that's a give away position. There is no responsibility in my position.
Company Commander is a position of responsibility as much as being the BN CSM. Why is there no responsibility in your position? Is it because your unit is poorly run and micromanaged by those senior to you or is it because you just don't care?
My point is just give up and do your job excel and hope for the best.
THAT is why you will never succeed. If you think it's OK to just give up, you're dead wrong.
You're going to go through various emotions with JROTC, what you have to do is just suck it up and keep marching. There are times where I've wanted to fight my SAI and AI but I closed my mouth and didn't talk to them I just did what I was told and prayed. Look to the future and forget the present.
Why'd you want to fight them? Because you didn't get your way? If you were one of my cadets when I wore my diamond, I promise you would never be in a position to lead and influence other cadets.
I also got real mad with my National Award. I got the Scottish Rite Award which in my unit means F%$^ You. I worked my butt of and I got a piece of crap they couldn't even give me the respect to put it in a case it was given to me in a bag without a ribbon. I just saluted, smiled and walked out.
Only you feel as though this would mean that. The award has a criteria it is awarded for, and if you met the criteria you should be proud of the fact that you received the award. You feel like everything you got is a slap in the face? Turn in the uniform, walk out of the program. I promise you, the Cadet Corps would be better off without your attitude.
There have been times where I have wanted to take my uniform off and burn it but you know why I don't? Because every time I feel like this I think about a Eagle, Globe and Anchor. I think of something bigger than me.
If you feel this way about a cadet program, what are you going to do when the Marines get under your skin? What are you going to do when someone with the DI mentality and pride in his Corps that HairyEyeball holds rips into your fourth point of contact? I dare you to disgrace the Armed Forces like that. I promise you you'll regret ever even thinking about it.
I'm still mad, I hold a grudge for a long time. Just suck it up and be complacent.
It's your problem if you hold a grudge. It's your problem if you feel like everything is a slap in the face. It's your problem if you feel like everyone is out to disrespect you. I HIGHLY suggest you get your attitude in check prior to you standing on the yellow footprints, or you will be in for a rude awakening in your own personal hell.

I know I put my thoughts onto paper wrong. I didn't mean it as you posted back, I do care about JROTC it's just no matter how hard you try and do in my program if you've made one mistake they murder it for you. I am also made at my program because of our control of ceremony, a good friend of mine who just transferred from NJROTC accidentaly dropped the American Flag during Flag Detail and my AI yelled at him for one hour about it, he told him he was worthless and has no right wearing the uniform. He went home and tried to commit Suicide. That was wrong of my AI a Life is more importan thatn a School issued American Flag(but not for what it stands for by no means, that's why I enlisted). It is not my or the highway I did all of those things for my unit and with how I've been treated feels like a slap in the face. My point You are going to get mad, bored, sad but mostly happy and excited with your unit, my best friends are in my unit, my most memorable moments I've ever had where with people(and with) my unit. That is all I'm saying.

Communication is extremely important. How you word your thoughts, whether it be verbally or written, can make or break what you intended to communicate. Think about what you're trying to say, re-read what you've written and ensure it says it how you want it to be said. You have the tools to make things right, you have the resources to verify your information and thoughts, and you have the brain capacity to do it all. Go out there, do it, and quit complaining about things. If you have an issue with how things go with your AI, respectfully approach him and on a professional level discuss these issues, and bring up said incident with that cadet. Change doesn't happen overnight, nor does it happen if you let things slide.

Hello,
I do not know what the heck your issue is here, but you seriously need to get a reality check. My issues with you are as follows:
1. Burning The Uniform: What the heck is your issue? You dishonor MY Army uniform? Have you no honor? Integrity? You just stash these in the closet and just say "Hey I don't need them" I do not know you face to face but post was uncalled for. You would not have said it if you did not mean it. That was just uncalled for.
2. You call yourself a Marine. First off, reality check here, your not a Marine, you need to EARN that title and at this point, you aint earned jack. YOU, if you even did enlist are a RECRUIT. Nothing more nothing less. You should be ashamed of yourself, knowing that there are Vets and Active Duty like myself that have been there done that, on this forum, and you totally dishonored them and that is uncalled for. Come back in fifteen months or when ever WHEN you ARE a MARINE IF you even make it. Thats a BIG If at this rate. RECRUIT.
3. Maturity: Quit complaining just because your unit is FUBAR, which at this rate, it looks like your the one who is. I would be very happy just getting an award. Seriously, Grow the **** up. Quit complaining. Get over yourself. Take responsibility for your actions. YOU are the one who cheated on that test, not us. Which just shows me that YOU have no HONOR. Integrity First, Service before self and excellence before all we do. Integrity, you have shown your unit you do not have that. Therefore they do not have the need to promote you.
Lastly, Good attempt at an apology, but as far as I'm concerned, you need to prove yourself on this forum. You do not go around bashing Service members, do you understand me? Your right, I am EXTREMELY UPSET. YOU CROSSED THE LINE WITH ME.
This serves as a warning Recruit.
