So I was browsing military documentaries and came across a documentary called "Ears Open, Eyeballs Click", a documentary about recruits in Marine Corps Boot Camp. What I'm wondering is: 1) if anyone has seen it, and if so 2) what do you think? I purchased it for a fairly good price because it looked good, but I wouldn't know if there were subtle things left out or misrepresented. Just asking for an opinion where applicable. God bless, everyone!

In my opinion, no film director can capture the true essence of Marine boot camp. I have seen the film, and for all intents and purposes, it is accurate. There are things (a bunch) that are left out of course, but what would you expect. The only way to understand it would be if you were there. In film, things can be taken out of context, and what may seem an irrational punishment, is in fact deserving. That just my take on the subject.

I completely understand. I'm sure that you're correct, seeing as how you've been there, done that and you know what you're talking about. My thinking in buying the documentary was that since there's a slim chance of my going to Marine Corps Boot Camp, I could at least get an accurate picture of what it's like over there. In any case, thanks for your input. God bless.

That movie was a joke. Wasting 2 minutes following birds in the sky illustrates boot camp how? There were some good parts that came close to showing what it is really like but for the most part the DIs were on a leash and the recruits whined too much. The best summary of Marine Corps boot has been and always will be "Making Marines." Read that book and you might just understand what recruits go through.

I just watched it...it's alright. The book, "Making Marines", is something I've already read. EXCELLENT book.

American society seems to be (endlessly) fascinated about Marine Corps boot camp. Film crews come and go. Maybe one day somebody with a camera will get it right....but until then...unless you've been there...

People are fascinating with the unknown and the personally unattainable. The ones that are most interested in Marine Corps boot camp are the ones, in most cases, that will never get there and/or pass. We want what we can't have, it's just human. I also think that as Americans we're obsessed with being the best at everything and Marines are associated with the best and most "bad ass" in our culture. Ask somebody to tell you who they think might be tougher than a Marine and they probably won't have an answer, except maybe a Navy SEAL or their favorite WWE wrestler.
