This is kind of a dumb thread but I'm nervous for comp this Saturday. Going against 10-15 schools and our unit hasn't ever been to this drill meet. This is our first year going, and the pressure is on! Haven't been to a drill meet in awhile since October because we cancelled our second drill meet because we weren't ready. Haven't commanded at comp ever since, really nervous and I hope we place in the top five. That would be great :D Yes well thanks to anyone who read it haha.

Most everyone feels pressure before competing, so don't feel as though you are alone. All you need to do is listen to what is said and you do what you need to do when you command. Rehearse and rehearse again and then maybe one more time. When you get there don't think about who is there or who is going to be judging you. All you need to think about is the routine you are conducting when you conduct it and all will be well.

On a side note, I too have a competition this Saturday and am feeling pressure on the color guard side of things, going up against arguably the best color guards in the region.

Interestingly enough, I found that while competing the best thing to do is to not allow yourself to be nervous. Have confidence in your team and in your own ability. Then, make sure you can back up that confidence. If something happens, don't let it mess you up. Recover and press on.

Well thank you :) I'm nervous on the Color Guard part too, I'm doing Navy and the CDR who is doing American is a little shorter than I am and when we do "Counter march" we bump into each other and the flags hit each other as well. I have to think that when we go on, just do the drill card and have confidence in myself and my team and if I/we screw up keep bearing and keep on going. Alot of schools though, haha it's not even Saturday and just reading/thinking about the drill card makes me nervous, but I'll push it aside. :D

And the same to you.

Does your Color Guard march shoulder to shoulder? Forgive me, I am not familiar with NJROTC DC.

If you guys take the proper amount of steps and stay close, you shouldn't have any problems. I have a similar problem with my NSCC color guard and after going over the D&C manual, we didn't have any problems.

Well all I have to say is GOOD LUCK!!! Just keep your mind on what you have been practicing, not on messing up because you will. Being nervous is just a state of mind.

Haha well thanks alot guys :D Yes we do march shoulder to shoulder and yes nervousness is just a state of mind. We will get past it and get through the drill card and place...well in a high place. Haha well thanks we're gonna have fun.

There you go. Keep that attitude and it'll put you far in life. Trust me. I keep a positive attitude every day and right now because of that I have a 95.3 average in Operations Specialist "A" school.

Being positive always helps.
